Indian auto giant Maruti Suzuki has just released a new teaser of its upcoming MPV. Called the Engage, it will become the new flagship model for the automaker upon its launch on July 5. Here’s what we know so far.
The Engage is the latest vehicle to be developed under the Suzuki-Toyota alliance. Based on the recently launched Innova Hycross, the upcoming Engage MPV will feature slightly tweaked styling elements.
As per the latest reports, the Engage will get a new front-grille with a honeycomb-mesh pattern and chrome surrounds. Two horizontal bars run through the middle of the grille, connecting to the signature three-element LED DRLs. Moving to the side, the latest teaser from Maruti shows us the unmistakable silhouette of the Hycross. The Engage will likely stay very similar to it in profile. Expect the MPV to get slightly redesigned tail lights as well.
Since it’s based on the Innova Hycross, the new Engage will also sit on Toyota’s TNGA-C platform. This also means that it will offer the same powertrain options as the former. There is a 2.0-litre petrol option that makes 174 bhp with 197 Nm of peak torque. The Engage could also be offered with a strong-hybrid option that pairs the 2.0-litre petrol engine with an electric motor for a combined power output of 186 bhp and 197 Nm. A CVT or an e-CVT automatic will be the transmission choice with this engine option.
The latest teaser also confirms the launch date of the Engage. Expected to be unveiled on July 5, the new model will be retailed through the NEXA premium outlets.
In terms of pricing, expect the Engage to be similarly priced as the Innova Hycross, which ranges between Rs 18.55 lakh (ex-showroom) - Rs 29.99 lakh (ex-showroom).
