MG Cloud will be a mass-market EV Maruti Suzuki to launch a small electric MPV by 2026 Kia Carens based EV confirmed for India
The BYD E6 is currently the most affordable electric MPV on sale in the Indian market. However, things will change in the near future. Brands like Maruti Suzuki, Kia India and MG Motor will launch new electric MPVs in the Indian market. All these models will be positioned as mass-market EVs and will be significantly cheaper BYD E6 and other electric SUVs in the country.

MG Motor India will launch two new mass-market EVs including a rugged compact SUV and a 3-row electric MPV. The new electric MPV will be based on the Wuling Cloud EV on sale in select South Asian markets including Indonesia. MG Motor is aiming to position the new electric MPV somewhere between the Comet EV and the ZS EV, and is likely to cost around Rs 15 lakh. This 3-row electric MPV will target both family buyers and the fleet operators. The electric MPV will go on sale in our market before the end of this financial year, most probably by the end of 2024. The Indonesian-spec model is packed with a 50.6kWh lithium-ion battery pack and a front-axle mounted electric motor that offers a combined power and torque outputs of 134bhp and 240Nm, respectively. It is claimed to offer a range of up to 505km on a single charge.

The Korean automaker will introduce two mass-market electric vehicles in the Indian market. The company will introduce an electric derivative of the Carens MPV, which has already been spotted testing in Korea. This electric MPV is expected to be launched by the end of 2025 or early 2026. The upcoming Carens EV is most likely to share its features with the existing ICE version. The MPV is also expected to feature an advanced driver assistance system with features like autonomous emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, lane assist and others. It is expected to feature a front-mounted electric motor, which draws power from a fixed battery pack. It is likely to offer an estimated range of up to 500km on a single charge.

Maruti Suzuki is reportedly working on 3 electric vehicles for the Indian market. The first model to be launched in our market is the production version of the eVX SUV. The company is also developing an entry-level electric hatchback based on the eWX concept and an all-new electric MPV. The electric MPV is expected to be introduced in the second half of 2026. Codenamed YMC, the new electric MPV will be based on the new skateboard platform that underpins the forthcoming Maruti eVX. Not just the architecture, the e-MPV is likely to share powertrain components with its SUV sibling. The SUV is likely to be offered with two battery options - a 48kWh and a 60kWh - with a maximum range of up to 550km on a single charge.
