Maruti Suzuki has just confirmed that it will be launching 6 new EVs in India by 2030. Currently, the auto-giant has no electric models in its lineup with strong-hybrid and CNG fuel types offered as alternative options. We take a closer look at Maruti’s electrification plans.
Maruti Suzuki EVs: Roadmap Revealed
At the launch event of the new Maruti Suzuki Invicto, company MD and CEO, Hisashi Takeuchi revealed the brand’s plans and roadmap for the future. In the image he shared were 6 different silhouettes all of which will be offered as pure EVs before the end of 2030.
The company did not get into the specifics of each model but the silhouettes and their headlight outlines give us a few ideas of what models could be under development for India.
The first model on the left looks like the Fronx EV, followed by the Jimny EV which has been in development for a while now. The two models in the middle are likely the Wagon R electric and eVX that was showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo. The last two silhouettes are unknown and could be brand-new models specifically designed for the Indian market.
Maruti eVX: The First EV to Launch
The auto giant is slated to unveil the eVX, its first pure-electric model, by late 2024. The EV has already been spotted testing overseas in near production-ready form.
The eVX will feature a clean-sheet design, unlike any current Maruti model. Its upright front end will feature swept-back dual projector headlights and a large horizontal bar. The side profile features silver alloy wheels, ORVMs with integrated indicators, and a shark fin antenna. At the rear, the eVX will get LED taillights with a connected LED light bar, a steeply-raked windscreen, and a boot lid spoiler.
Maruti will also give the eVX a brand-new interior design and setup. Notable highlights include dual displays for the infotainment system and instrument cluster, a two-spoke steering wheel, Haptic Touch climate controls, a rotary gear knob, and a floating centre console.
Powering the eVX will likely be a 60 kWh battery pack with a range of around 550 km. The entry-level models may get a smaller 48 kWh unit that has a range of around 400 km. Maruti is yet to announce any power figures or the charging speeds of the eVX.
Upon launch, the Maruti eVX will rival the likes of the Hyundai Kona Electric and MG ZS EV.
