Maruti Suzuki has been experimenting in different car segments. Recent media reports revealed that the automaker has lined up 8 new cars including 3 new EVs. Among these, the electric MPV, codenamed YMC, has captured attention. Rumors suggest that the MPV would share the same skateboard platform as the eVX. With its eco-friendly design, the YMC represents Maruti Suzuki's dedication to innovation and sustainability in the automotive arena.
The upcoming electric MPV is expected to adopt an innovative Born-Electric Architecture, drawing from the advanced 27PL skateboard platform. This platform is co-engineered by Maruti and Toyota.
It is also believed that the vehicle might offer the same battery and electric motor choices as the eVX. As a result, it could feature 40 kWh and 60 kWh battery packs. With this configuration, it is projected to offer a maximum range of 550 kms. Given these figures, the upcoming vehicle could be a good option for those seeking an electric new MPV.
The homegrown automaker is expected to debut its first electric MPV by the year 2026. This launch will mark the brand's sixth three-row model, joining the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, XL6, and others.
Before the launch of the electric MPV (YMC), the manufacturer will be preparing itself to introduce a mid-size electric SUV - the eVX. The vehicle is expected to hit Indian roads by October 2024. As for the rivals, it will compete against the likes of Hyundai Creta EV and MG ZS EV in its segment.
