With the Air Quality Index (AQI) in parts of the country crossing 491 days before Diwali, air pollution is becoming a serious health concern. To help protect you while driving, several cars now come equipped with built-in air purifiers. These purifiers actively clean the air inside the car, keeping harmful pollutants out. Here are some cars with built-in air purifiers that can help you stay safe from air pollution.
The new Tata Nexon offers a built-in air purifier with dust sensors and a real-time AQI display in its top-spec Fearless variant. This variant is priced from Rs 12.60 lakh (ex-showroom). The purifier works in conjunction with Nexon’s advanced climate control system, ensuring clean air is continuously circulated inside the cabin.
With a Smart Pure air purifier on board, the Kia Sonet offers protection against viruses and bacteria. The purifier has a real-time AQI display and is integrated into the central armrest console. Available from the HTX Plus variant, it starts at Rs 13.60 lakh. The Sonet also comes with PM 2.5 filtration, ideal for cleaning out fine particulate matter that can enter the cabin.
Next up, Hyundai Verna integrated air purifier is available in the higher-spec SX (O) variant, starting at Rs 14.70 lakh (ex-showroom). This system filters out both PM 2.5 and PM 10 particulate matter, making it especially effective in highly polluted environments. The AQI display is integrated into the infotainment system, giving real-time updates.
One of the first cars in the mass-market segment to offer an air purifier, the Kia Seltos features an integrated system with haptic feedback controls and a perfume diffuser. The system goes beyond PM 2.5 filtration to provide a more pleasant cabin environment. Available in the mid-level HTX variant, the Seltos is priced from Rs 15.47 lakh.
The Kia Carens MPV features an air purifier that offers protection against both viruses and bacteria. The purifier system is available in the mid-level Luxury variant, starting at Rs 16.71 lakh. The Carens’ air purifier includes a UV filtration module, which adds an extra layer of protection by eliminating airborne germs.
Lastly, the Tata Safari offers an air purifier system in its Adventure Plus variant, which starts at Rs 21.49 lakh (ex-showroom). Like the Nexon, the Safari’s purifier includes dust sensors and an AQI display. The large SUV’s cabin air is cleaned through a multi-stage filtration system integrated into the car’s climate control unit.
As air pollution levels rise, particularly during the festive season, driving in areas with poor air quality can be hazardous. The built-in air purifiers in these cars help filter out harmful particulate matter like PM 2.5, as well as viruses and bacteria, ensuring that the air inside your vehicle stays cleaner. While these systems offer significant protection, it's still advisable to limit outdoor exposure and wear a mask if you must go out.
