Continuing along its journey of offering compact luxury products, Mercedes Benz India has just launched its second roadster model, the SL55 in the country. Priced at Rs 2.35 crore (ex-showroom), the new 7th generation model marks the return of the SL nameplate in the Indian market.
Mercedes-AMG is offering the SL55 Roadster in only one variant. The SL 55 4MATIC+ is priced at Rs 2.35 crore (ex-showroom) and comes equipped with all the bells and whistles.
The new flagship roadster model, the SL55 will replace the AMG GT Roadster and the S-Class Cabriolet in the company’s India line-up.
Being an AMG product from Affalterbach, the SL55 features a sharp design. Upfront we get to see the traditional Pan-American grille along with a long bonnet with power bulges, which are trademark features of Mercedes-AMG GT models. Lower down there is a new bumper with large air-intakes that gives the car its sporty looks.
In profile, we find a sharp shoulder line rising from the fender and ending above the tail lamps. Along with frameless doors and a soft-top roof. Other key highlights include flush fitting door handles and new multi-spoke 20-inch alloy wheels.
Moving to the rear, we get to see familiar wrap-around LED tail lamp and new design diffuser with quad chrome tip exhaust. The soft-top roof can be deployed up to speed of 60 kmph and takes 15 seconds.
Overall, the SL55’s design feels like an evolution from the last gen AMG GT Roadster that was recently discontinued.
On the inside, the Mercedes SL55 Roadster is built to offer a luxurious yet sporty appeal. The tech laden cabin is unmistakably Mercedes Benz. It features a tilting tablet like 11.9-inch MBUX touchscreen system, AR head-up-display, digital instrument cluster and optional 17 speaker premium Burmeister sound system. Customers can also choose between two types of seats and multiple colour options for the interior. The multi-functional AMG steering wheel covered in Nappa leather giving the car maximum luxury.
In terms of safety, the car get 8 airbags, ABS with EBD, Pre-Safe, Collision Detection, Lane Keep assist and more.
Built on the same platform as the second-generation AMG GT, the SL55 Roadster comes powered by the familiar 4.0-litre Bi-turbo V8 producing 476 bhp and 700 Nm of peak torque. The new model comes mated to a 9-speed AMG Speedshift gearbox and completes the 0-100 kmph sprint in 3.9 seconds.
In addition to this, the top-spec AMG Roadster model also comes equipped with four-wheel drive and four-wheel steering as standard. In addition, customers can also opt for AMG Ride Control+ which gives better driving dynamics and front axle lift.
