MG Windsor EV Launch Live Updates - Price, Range, Interior, Features

The much-awaited MG Windsor electric vehicle has finally launched in the Indian market. The electric CUV price in India starts at Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom). It is the first product under JSW MG Motor India and the third in the brand's line-up. The new Windsor EV is positioned between the Comet EV and ZS EV. 

MG has also announced to launch a new product every six months in the country. The company will introduce new hybrid, plug-in hybrid EVs and electric vehicles in our market. We expect the next MG could be the new Astor hybrid or a compact electric SUV. It is basically the re-badged version of the Wuling Cloud EV on sale in select international markets including Indonesia. It will be positioned against the likes of the Tata Curvv EV, Nexon EV and the Mahindra XUV400.

13:28 PM - Windsor EV Launched

The MG Windsor EV is available in 3 variants - Excite, Exclusive and Essence. It is available at a starting price of Rs 9.99 lakh; however, MG has not released the prices of other variants.

13:16 PM - Long Wheelbase & Boot Space

The MG Windsor EV is 4.3 meters long crossover utility vehicle. It rides on a longer 2700mm wheelbase, which ensures spacious cabin for 5 adults and a boot space of 604-litres. Height and Width stands at 1677mm and 1850mm, respectively.

MG Motor India is offering a lifetime battery warranty on the Windsor EV. Moreover, the brand's buyback program will provide 60% of the Car's value even after completion of 3 years.

13:07 PM - MG Windsor EV Battery & Range

The MG Windsor EV is available with a 38kWh LFP lithium-ion battery pack with a front-axle mounted electric motor. The combined power and torque output stands at 136PS and 200Nm, respectively. It is claimed to offer a certified range of 331km in a single charge.

JSW MG Motor India has officially announced that it will focus on bringing a new product every six month in the country. The big news is that the company will introduce the Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid EV in the country. The new MG Astor could be the brand's first hybrid car in the country. For people not in the know, MG Motors has already introduced the new-gen Astor/ZS in Europe and Australia with a hybrid powertrain.

12:26 PM - Design Highlights

The Windsor EV carries a unique design that's offer a cross between a hatchback and an MPV. Interestingly, the MG Windsor EV will be marketed as CUV or Crossover Utility Vehicle. It comes with MPV-like cab-forward design, but with styling elements similar to a crossover. Design highlights include full-width LED light bar at the front and rear, split headlamp setup with main headlamp placed on lower bumper and LED DRLs on top. It rides on new chunky 18-inch alloy wheels, while other design elements including flush-fitting door handles and a massive raked windscreen.

11:45 AM - More localisation

It will have more localisation levels compared to the ZS EV and the Comet EV. For reference, the MG Comet EV has a localisation levels of up to 60%. Similarly, MG has achieved close to 40% localisation for the ZS EV. When it comes to Windsor EV, the company aims to achieve close to 70% localisation levels.

The upcoming MG Windsor EV will come in 4 exterior colour options including Pearl White, Starburst Black, Turquoise Green and Clay Beige

11:19 AM - Expected Range

The Windsor EV is likely to share the battery specifications with the Wuling Cloud EV. It is available with two battery packs - 37.9kWh and 50.6kWh. Both batteries are paired to the front-axle-mounted electric motor. While the former offers a range of 360km, the 50.6kWh unit delivers up to 460km range. These figures are based on the Chinese testing cycle. The India-spec model should offer a range of over 500km on a single charge. A real range of over 350km can be expected.

10:48 AM - an update from Tata Motors - Windsor EV impact?

Tata Motors has announced special prices for its EV range, which includes Nexon EV, Punch EV and Tiago EV. The big news is that the Nexon EV prices are slashed by up to Rs 3 lakh. The base variant of the Nexon.ev is now available at a starting price of Rs 12.50 lakh. 

Similarly, the Punch EV is now cheaper by up to Rs 1.2 lakh. It is now available at a starting price of Rs 9.99 lakh. The Tata Tiago.ev base variant price remains the same, however, certain variants have received a price cut of up to Rs 40,000. Tap here for more details

10:42 AM - More brands entering EV category

Maruti Suzuki has already announced that the EVX concept based SUV will soon enter the production cycle. In fact, the electric SUV will first launch in Europe and Japan. Suzuki's Gujarat based plant will be the export hub for the electric SUV. India launch is expected in the first half of 2025. 

Similarly, Kia will introduce the electric version of the Carens MPV in our market in 2025. Adding to it, the company is also working on an all-new compact SUV which will be offered with ICE and EV powertrains. Rumoured to be called the Syros or Clavis, the compact SUV will be launched in 2025-26. 

Mahindra will introduce the production version of the BE.05 in the country by October 2025. On the other hand, Honda will launch an all-new electric SUV based on the Elevate. 

10:36 AM - More EVs incoming

The Windsor EV is the latest electric model to join the likes of the Tata Curvv EV, Nexon EV, ZS EV, BYD Atto 3 and Mahindra XUV400. Adding to it, brand's like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Mahindra, Kia and Honda will also enter the fast growing mid-sized electric vehicle segment.

Hyundai will launch the Creta-based electric SUV in the first quarter of 2025, most probably in January. Production is expected to commence in December this year.

10:28 AM - EV-only platform

The MG Windsor EV is based on an EV-only skateboard architecture, which allows MG to offer more space inside the cabin and bigger boot. In fact, the born-ev platform is designed in a way to accommodate modern-day tech and advanced features. The ZS EV has a wheelbase of 2,585mm, while the Crossover utility vehicle rides on a longer wheelbase that's 2700mm. Moreover, Born-EV based electric CUV offers more range compared to the ICE-modified platform.

10:22 AM - expected pricing

MG Motor India has already announced to increase the localisation levels to achieve competitive pricing. It will sit between the ZS EV and the Comet EV, and is expected to be priced somewhere around Rs 15 lakh to Rs 20 lakh. At this price point, it will rival the Nexon EV, Curvv EV and Mahindra XUV400.

The new Windsor EV comes equipped with segment-first Aero-lunge seats with black leatherette upholstery. The second-row seats come with reclining function, which allows user to recline the seat up to a 135-degre angle.

10:08 AM - Teaser reveals

The teasers confirm that the new MG Windsor V will come equipped with a panoramic glass roof and 15.6-inch 'GrandView' touchscreen infotainment system. The infotainment unit will be compatible with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
