Kia is preparing to introduce the new gen Seltos in India soon, and new information suggests a major update for diesel SUV buyers. The upcoming model is expected to offer a 7-speed automatic transmission paired with the 1.5-litre diesel engine. If launched, this will be the first SUV in the mid-size segment to offer this diesel + 7AT combination, giving the new Kia Seltos a clear premium edge.

Currently, the Kia Seltos diesel is offered with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox. This engine produces 116 PS and 250 Nm of torque. The upcoming upgrade is expected to make the SUV smoother and more refined. With the new setup, the engine can cruise at lower RPM on highways, giving a quieter cabin and a more comfortable drive. This is expected to be a key feature in the new-gen Kia Seltos.
The 7-speed gearbox is expected to make daily driving smoother. Closer gear ratios should improve mid-range performance, making overtaking easier in the city and on highways. The extra gear may also boost fuel efficiency on long trips. Lower engine load can help reduce emissions, keeping the SUV compliant with future rules. Kia is likely to tune it for Indian roads to ensure reliability.
Diesel automatic options in the mid-size SUV segment are becoming rare due to rising emission costs. Hyundai Creta still offers diesel with manual and automatic options, like the current Seltos. Toyota Hyryder, Maruti Grand Vitara, Maruti Victoris, and Honda Elevate don’t offer diesel engines. Tata Curvv is one of the few that does, and the upcoming Tata Sierra is also expected to get a diesel engine.
The new Kia Seltos launch date is expected to be announced soon, with the SUV likely to hit the market shortly after. The update will bring refreshed exterior styling, improved interiors, and better comfort features. Pricing will likely be in line with the Kia Seltos 2026 price, depending on the final features and configuration.
