Japanese carmaker, Honda has officially announced to launch 10 new cars, including 7 SUVs in the Indian market before the end of this decade. The company has also confirmed that it will introduce more products in the sub-4 meter category. Moreover, a sub-4 meter SUV is also under development for the Indian market.
Honda currently has one car, the Amaze sedan, in the sub-4 meter category. The company has no sub-4 meter SUV, which is one of the fastest growing segments in the country. This compact SUV segment is dominated by the Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet and Mahindra XUV 3XO. The new compact SUV could help Honda to regain its lost market share in the market.
The Japanese brand is already selling the WR-V compact SUV in select ASIAN markets. This SUV measures around 4 meters, and is based on the City’s platform. It is expected that Honda could utilise the Amaze’s platform to develop the new SUV. Moreover, the company is developing an all-new PF2 modular platform. This architecture will be used to develop new hybrid SUVs, including a new 7-seater model and a sub-4 meter SUV.
Honda has stated that it will bring some of its global cars as CBUs or CKDs in India. The company is expected to introduce the CR-V hybrid in our market. Moreover, the 0 Series SUV has been confirmed for India and is likely to arrive in 2026-27 as a CBU model. Honda has also showcased a new 0 Alpha SUV concept, which will be launched in India in 2027.
Honda is also likely to launch its first hybrid SUV in India in 2026. The new model could be the Honda Elevate hybrid, which will utilise the upgraded version of Honda’s 1.5L Atkinson cycle engine with e:HEV tech. The new SUV will rival the likes of the Maruti Victoris, Toyota Hyryder and the upcoming Hybrid SUVs, including Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta.
