JSW-Chery SUVs Coming to India - EVs and Hybrids Included

Multiple EV and hybrid SUVs planned for India Includes iCar V23, Jetour T2 and Tiggo 8 Launch timeline expected between 2026 and 2027

Chery Automobile is preparing to enter the Indian passenger vehicle market through a partnership with JSW Group. The focus of this collaboration will be on premium SUVs, including electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrid models (PHEVs), with multiple launches expected between 2026 and 2027.

The upcoming lineup is expected to include a mix of rugged electric SUVs, hybrid models, and a flagship 7-seater, all aimed at high-demand segments in India.

Multiple SUVs Planned for India

As part of its India strategy, Chery is likely to introduce several global models through the JSW partnership. These include the Chery iCAUR V23 (often branded as iCar V23), Jetour T2, Chery Tiggo 8, and the Jaecoo J5.

Each of these models targets a different segment, ranging from compact electric SUVs to larger family-oriented vehicles.

Focus on Electric and Hybrid Powertrains

The partnership will strongly focus on New Energy Vehicles. The iCAUR V23 (iCar V23) is expected to be a rugged, boxy electric SUV offering a claimed range of over 400 km, making it suitable for both city use and longer drives.

The Jetour T2, on the other hand, will bring a plug-in hybrid setup. It is expected to combine a turbo petrol engine with an electric motor, offering an electric-only driving range of around 100 km. This could make it a practical option for buyers looking for efficiency without range anxiety.

Premium 7-Seater and Mid-Size SUV Options

For buyers looking for a larger SUV, the Tiggo 8 is expected to arrive as a premium 7-seater. It will likely be positioned against models like the Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV700, offering a strong combination of space and performance.

Meanwhile, the Jaecoo J5 will target the mid-size SUV segment, where it is expected to rival popular models such as the Hyundai Creta. This model will further strengthen the EV lineup under the partnership.

Local Assembly to Keep Prices Competitive

JSW Motors is setting up a new manufacturing and assembly facility in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar. The upcoming SUVs are expected to be assembled locally using CKD units.

This approach is likely to help in managing costs and making these models more competitive in the Indian market.
