The long-awaited new-gen Maruti Swift 2024 will finally go on sale in the Indian market on May 9, 2024. The new-gen Swift hatchback is already on sale in Suzuki's home market, Japan. After Swift, Maruti Suzuki will launch the next gen Dzire sub-compact sedan by festive season, Diwali. The new gen Swift hatchback will receive design changes and an all-new interior along with a new Z-series petrol engine.
Based on the modified HEARTECT platform, the new-gen Swift hatchback retains the original silhouette; however, it has received several new design elements. Dimensionally, the new model is 3860mm long, 1695mm wide and 1500mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2450mm. It is around 15mm longer than the current car; however, the width and height are reduced by 40mm and 30mm respectively. The hatchback has a luggage carrying capacity of 265-litres, which can be further extended by folding the second-row seat.
The new Swift hatchback comes with an all-new front fascia, featuring a slightly smaller, aggressive grille and an all-new LED headlamps. Instead of C-pillar mounted door handles, the new Suzuki Swift has more conventional door handles. Design highlights include a new set of alloy wheels, a newly styled tailgate design with inverted C-shaped LED tail-lights, black bumper inserts and others.
The big change is made inside the cabin, as it is completely different from the existing model. The cabin styling is inspired from the Baleno hatchback, featuring a new dual-tone black/beige interior scheme. It comes with a flat-bottom steering wheel, toggle switches for climate controls, and analogue dials. Talking about key features, the new Swift will have analogue dials with MID, automatic AC, keyless entry, reverse parking camera, push-button start-stop, rear heater duct, etc. Adding to it, the compact hatchback gets a new 9-inch touchscreen infotainment unit which will be compatible with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. While the Japanese-spec model comes with ADAS tech, the India-spec model is most likely to offer up to 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, brake assist, ESC and others.
The new Swift will also mark the debut of Suzuki's new 1.2L, Z-Series petrol engine in India. This 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine is capable of producing 82bhp at 5700rpm and a peak torque of 108Nm at 4,500rpm. The mild-hybrid version has a DC synchronous motor, which offers an additional power and torque outputs of 3.1bhp and 60Nm, respectively. Both manual and AMT versions are likely on offer. The Japanese-spec model also gets a CVT transmission, which is also likely to be offered in the India-spec model.
Scheduled to be launched on May 9, 2024, the new-gen Swift hatchback will challenge the likes of the Tata Tiago and the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios. The new model will be loaded with several new features, which is likely to make it slightly more expensive than the existing model. We expect the new Swift to cost somewhere between Rs 6.5 lakh and Rs 10 lakh.
