The Indian automotive industry is all set to welcome a wide range of new midsize SUVs. This segment is currently dominated by the Hyundai Creta, which is constantly doing around 15,000 monthly sales. Over the next couple of months, a total of 5 new midsize SUVs will be launched in our market. These upcoming SUVs from Tata, Maruti Suzuki, Renault and Kia will directly challenge the dominance of Creta in the midsize category.
Note : these 5 SUVs will have both ICE and EV powertrains, and will challenge the Creta and Creta Electric.

Scheduled to be launched on the January 26, 2026, the third-gen Renault Duster will come with more premium interiors and new styling. The SUV will be based on the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s CMF-B modular platform, which will also underpin the Nissan Tekton. The SUV will look identical to the global-spec model.
The SUV will be powered by a 1.3L, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that produces 156bhp and 250Nm of torque. Transmission choices could include a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DCT. The hybrid version is also under consideration, and could launch by 2027.

The long-awaited second-gen Kia Seltos will make its global debut in South Korea and India simultaneously on December 10, 2025. Its India sales is expected to begin in January 2026. The SUV will be based on the heavily modified version of the current platform. The new-gen Kia Seltos will grow in size, and will carry a boxier design inspired by the bigger Telluride.
The SUV will retain the engine options, including a 1.5L NA petrol, a 1.5L turbo petrol and a 1.5L diesel. Both manual and automatic gearbox options will be on offer. The company has also announced the Seltos hybrid, which is likely to launch in our market in 2027.

Tata Motors will launch the ICE-powered Sierra on November 25, 2025. Marketed as a lifestyle SUV, the new Tata Sierra will be a front-wheel-drive SUV and will challenge the dominance of Hyundai Creta. The SUV gets the segment-first triple screen dashboard, and the segment-largest panoramic sunroof.
Tata has not revealed the engine options of the Sierra, but it is most likely to debut two petrol engines. The entry-level variants will get the new 1.5L NA petrol unit, while the higher-spec models will be powered by a 1.5L turbocharged petrol engine. The diesel version will get the 1.5L unit that also powers the Nexon and Curvv.

Tata Motors has also teased the new Sierra EV alongside the new Sierra via its social media platforms. It is expected that the Tata Sierra EV will be launched in December 2025. The SUV could be revealed on the day of the Sierra ICE launch. It will directly rival the Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6 and others in the midsize electric SUV category.
The Sierra EV is expected to be offered with two battery choices, including a 55kWh from Curvv EV and a 65kWh from Harrier EV. The higher-spec variant could get a dual-motor AWD setup.

Maruti Suzuki will finally launch its first fully-electric SUV, the e Vitara in the country on December 2, 2025. The electric Vitara will directly rival the Mahindra BE 6 and the Hyundai Creta Electric. We expect the new electric SUV to cost somewhere between Rs 18 lakh to Rs 22 lakh.
The e Vitara base variants will be equipped with a 49kWh battery, while the higher-spec variants will be fitted with a 61kWh battery pack. Both will be offered with a front-axle-mounted electric motor; however, the global-spec model also gets a dual-motor AWD version. It is expected to offer a range of around 400-450km in a single charge.
