New Kia Seltos Hybrid for European markets Gets 178hp e-AWD variant India to get a different hybrid engine
Kia has introduced the second generation Kia Seltos in the European markets. While the design and technology seems identical to the India-spec model, the big update comes under the hood. For its European debut, the new Seltos gets a new hybrid line-up. This hybrid setup is different from what Kia is selling in South Korea. Kia claims that the new hybrid engine is specifically engineered to balance efficiency with rugged capability. The 2026 Kia Seltos features new 154 hp hybrid system and a high-performance 178 hp e-AWD variant.
The 2026 Kia Seltos gets a new 1.6-litre GDI HEV powertrain, which is offered with a standard front-wheel-drive configuration, and delivers a combined power output of 154hp. This setup is designed for the urban explorer, and offers smooth, responsive acceleration and high fuel efficiency for daily commuting.

The new Seltos also gets a flagship hybrid variant, which offers a combined power output of 178hp. This system uses Hyundai Motor Group’s e-AWD system. The hybrid engine is paired with an electronic all-wheel-drive system to offer superior traction on wet, icy, or uneven European terrain. This system is claimed to offer more robust driving feel compared to the standard 2WD model, and offers instantaneous power to the wheels.
This time around, Kia has integrated Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology into the hybrid Seltos. This system is generally associated with high-end electric vehicles. This tech allows drivers to use the hybrid battery to power external devices such as laptops, camping gears and others directly from the vehicle.
The India-spec Kia Seltos is likely to be equipped with a newly developed hybrid powertrain. It is likely to use the existing 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine along with two electric motors and a small battery pack. The company would aim to achieve a fuel efficiency figures of around 25kmpl. The new Kia Seltos hybrid will rival the likes of the Maruti Grand Vitara hybrid, Toyota Hyryder hybrid, and the upcoming Renault Duster hybrid.
