Next-Gen Subcompact SUVs Coming to India

Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV 3XO, and Maruti Brezza are set for next-gen updates. New designs, upgraded features, and hybrid tech expected across subcompact SUVs. Sub-4 metre SUV segment in India gets more exciting with upcoming launches.

The sub-4 metre SUV segment is one of the most popular in India, with strong sales and a wide range of choices for buyers. Over the next few years, this segment is set to get even more exciting as several models prepare for facelifts or full-generation upgrades. Here’s a closer look at four subcompact SUVs that are expected to enter their next generation.

1. Kia Sonet

The second-generation Kia Sonet is already in testing and is expected to launch in the second half of 2027. Spy shots suggest it will feature Seltos-inspired design changes, including a larger grille and new split headlamp setup. Inside, it may get a bigger touchscreen and updated features. Engine options are expected to remain the same, with a 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol, 1.0L turbo petrol, and 1.5L diesel.

2. Tata Nexon

India’s top-selling subcompact SUV, the Tata Nexon, will see a generational update in 2027. The new model is likely to use a heavily modified X1 platform and showcase Tata’s latest design language. The interior is expected to receive upgrades with advanced tech and features, while engine options will continue to offer flexibility for buyers.

3. Mahindra XUV 3XO

The next-generation Mahindra XUV 3XO will be the production version of the Vision X concept shown at last year’s Bharat Mobility Show. It will move to Mahindra’s new NU_IQ platform, which can support multiple powertrains, including ICE, hybrid, and electric. The new XUV 3XO is expected to reach Indian roads in 2027 or later.

4. Maruti Brezza

The new-generation Maruti Brezza is expected to launch around 2029. It will likely see major updates in design, features, and engines. Reports suggest that it could come with Maruti’s strong hybrid powertrain, first introduced in the Fronx in 2027, making it a more efficient and modern option for city buyers.
