The French automaker, Renault is working on a new 3-row SUV which will be launched in India in 2026. It will be a 7-seater derivative of the Dacia Bigster SUV on sale in select European nations. In fact, Renault has already started testing its own version of the mid-sized SUV. As a reminder, the new-gen Duster and Bigster are based on the same CMF-B modular platform.
Renault has confirmed that the new 7-seater SUV, Bigster will be launched in India in 2026. It will be a direct rival to the likes of the Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari and others in the category. The SUV will be locally developed at Renault-Nissan Alliance's manufacturing facility in Oragadam, near Chennai.
The India-spec Renault Bigster 7-seater SUV will be powered by a 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine. This engine will also power the new Duster and Nissan's upcoming mid-sized SUVs. Paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, the turbo petrol engine produces 151bhp and 250Nm of torque.
Renault India is also considering a strong hybrid engine for the new Bigster 7-seater SUV. It is likely to get a 94bhp, 1.6L NA petrol engine benefitted with a strong hybrid tech. The strong hybrid tech comprising a 49bhp electric motor, a high voltage starter generator, and a 1.2kWh battery pack. The combined power output stands at 140bhp.
The Dacia Bigster on sale in global markets measures 4.57 meters in length, 1.80 meters in width and 1.70 meters in height with a wheelbase of around 2.74 meters. The India-spec model is likely to measure similar to the global Bigster. Renault will utilize the increased wheelbase and boot space to add third-row seat. Moreover, the length could have been increased by 100-200mm.
The new Renault Bigster 7-seater SUV is likely to be equipped with several high-end features. It is likely to be equipped with a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a fully-digital instrument console.
