Skoda Kylaq could get a CNG version It will directly rival the Nexon CNG and Brezza CNG The CNG version will be based on the 1.0L TSI engine
We reported earlier that the Skoda Kylaq will soon receive a new entry-level variant with more features and aggressive price tag. A new media report claims that Skoda is considering CNG as a powertrain option for the Indian market. The Skoda Kylaq could be the first model from the automaker to feature a CNG powertrain.
Skoda is currently looking at CNG compatibility for its 1.0L turbo petrol engine. Most of the Kylaq rivals including Maruti Brezza and Tata Nexon are available with CNG fuel options. While the Brezza CNG is based on the 1.5L K15C petrol engine, the Nexon gets a CNG fuel option with the 1.2L turbo petrol engine.
Skoda could take an inspiration from Tata Motors, which manages to add CNG kit with a turbo petrol engine to power the Nexon. Skoda’s 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine currently powers the Kushaq, Slavia and Kylaq. This engine is capable of producing 118bhp and 175Nm of torque.
The Kylaq CNG is expected to be offered with a manual gearbox. We believe that the CNG version will offer a power and torque output of around 100bhp and 150-160Nm, respectively.
The Skoda Kylaq compact SUV is available in 4 broad variants, Classic, Signature, Signature Plus, and Prestige. The Kylaq is available in the price bracket of Rs 7.89 lakh to Rs 14.40 lakh. The Czech automaker is also testing the Kushaq facelift, which is expected to be launched with ADAS tech. The company has also confirmed that the Octavia RS will arrive in our market before the end of this year.
