The Tata Nexon, first introduced in 2017, is currently one of the top-selling SUVs in the country. This subcompact SUV has been favored for its top safety rating, sporty design, spacious cabin, efficiency, and affordability. To challenge its market dominance, Mahindra & Mahindra and Kia India will roll out two new electric SUVs—the XUV 3XO EV and the Syros EV, respectively.
While the Mahindra XUV 3XO EV is expected to arrive in the coming months, the Kia Syros EV will make its market debut in early 2026. Let’s take a look at the key details of these upcoming Tata Nexon rival EVs.
The indigenous automaker has been testing the XUV 3XO EV for a while now. The subcompact electric SUV is likely to use a 35kWh battery pack, which will be a smaller capacity version of the XUV400 EV’s 40kWh battery. The range figure of the EV is still under wraps. The spy images reveal that the Mahindra XUV 3XO EV will feature an EV-specific front grille with a larger central air intake, badging, and C-shaped LED DRLs. The alloy wheels will also differ from those of its ICE counterpart. The EV will have C-shaped taillamps and a license plate on the tailgate. The cabin of the XUV 3XO EV will be exactly similar to that of the ICE-powered XUV 3XO.
The Kia Syros EV is likely to be designed on the K1 platform, which also underpins the India-bound Hyundai Inster EV. It might also borrow the powertrain from its Hyundai sibling, which comes with 42kWh and 49kWh battery packs, delivering a claimed WLTP range of 300km and 355km, respectively. Compared to the regular Syros, its electric version will look slightly different, featuring ‘EV’ badges and aero-optimized wheels. It might receive new seat upholstery and trims, while the features will remain unchanged. This means the Syros EV will come with goodies such as dual 12.3-inch displays for infotainment and instrumentation, a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera, Level 2 ADAS, a 5-inch touchscreen for climate control, reclining, sliding, and ventilated second-row seats, and more.
Mahindra XEV 9e and BE 6 account for 56 percent and 44 percent of the total bookings, respectively. Deliveries for the new Born EVs will commence from mid-March 2025.
