Tata Sierra to Carry Aggressive Price Tag - Here’s How?

The long-awaited Tata Sierra ICE will be launched in the country on November 25, 2025. Ahead of the official launch, Tata Motors has released a TVC revealing new Sierra’s design and interior. A new media report claims that the new Tata Sierra will debut the brand’s two new petrol engines. Moreover, the SUV will carry an aggressive price tag.

Two Petrol Engines

Tata Sierra ICE side profile

The new Sierra lifestyle SUV will be powered by a brand new 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, naturally-aspirated petrol engine. The other powertrain will be a 1.5-litre, direct-injection turbo-petrol unit, which was revealed at the 2023 Auto Expo.

The report claims that the 1.5L naturally-aspirated engine will be a derivative of the 1.5L direct-injection unit. It will share the basic architecture, including bore spacing, block and head design with the turbo unit.

The naturally-aspirated engine is expected to produce around 120hp of power and 140Nm of torque, which is close to its direct rivals like the Hyundai Creta 1.5 NA, Kia Seltos 1.5 NA and the Honda Elevate. On the flip-side, the turbocharged petrol engine produces 170hp and 280Nm of torque. Both manual and automatic gearbox options are likely on offer.

Diesel Engine Choices

Tata could offer the Sierra with two diesel engine choices. The lower variants could get the 1.5L turbo diesel engine that powers the Nexon. The higher trims are likely to get the 2.0L Kryotec diesel engine that powers the Harrier and Safari. Also See - 2025 Hyundai Venue First Drive Review

Aggressive Pricing on the Cards

The naturally-aspirated petrol engine in the lower variants of the Sierra will help Tata Motors to price it competitively. The engine is basically the derivative of the direct injection unit, and the omission of the turbocharger and high pressure injection system for a port fuel injection setup. This will help in reducing manufacturing costs.

The mid-sized SUV segment is dominated by the Hyundai Creta. In fact, the naturally-aspirated version accounts for over 50 percent of the total sales. Customers are opting for efficiency and good pricing over the performance-oriented versions.

Tata will position the new Sierra between the Tata Curvv and Harrier. We expect the new SUV to cost somewhere around Rs 11 lakh to Rs 20 lakh, ex-showroom.
