2.8-litre engine producing 221 bhp and 550 Nm torque. New 18-inch black alloy wheels and sportier bumpers. Suspension tuned for off-road comfort, just like a GR model. GR-badged Alcantara seats and metallic pedals. Automatic transmission with four-wheel drive.
The Toyota Fortuner has always been the most favourite among SUV lovers. It has reached a remarkable popularity level in India, Southeast Asia, and South Africa. The most powerful version of the Fortuner was recently unveiled by Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM). Introduced with more power, huge torque, and slight designs, the new 2025 Fortuner GR Sport (GR-S) is about to explore the market.
Let's see what this new model entails:
The 2025 Fortuner GR Sport is equipped with a 2.8-litre four-cylinder engine that has been upgraded. The new engine now produces 221 bhp, an increase of 20 bhp from the previous version. Additionally, the torque has been improved, generating 550 Nm, compared to the previous 500 Nm. Power is distributed to all four wheels, improving the vehicle's handling and driveability. The new model comes with a torque converter automatic gearbox for smoother power delivery and better driving performance.
The updated 2025 Fortuner GR Sport has been redressed on the outside. One of the prominent changes here is the set of new 18-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels, finished in gloss black. The SUV thus benefits from these wheels in terms of a bolder and sleeker appearance.
The front and rear bumpers have been re-design for further enhancement of the sporty personality of the SUV. The GR grille has also been given a honeycomb mesh and this SUV has also been provided with an additional skid plate underneath the bumper for that rugged touch.
The new bumpers will make the Fortuner GR Sport look bolder and sportier. The car still boasts sleek LED headlamps and LED taillamps. The floating roof effect, black side pillars, and roof rails give the side profile a really aggressive sporty look.
The 2025 Fortuner GR Sport boasts a new suspension system, GR-tuned with monotube shock absorbers, which allows the SUV to move over any terrain with minimal difficulties. The GR-tuned suspension also gives better ride quality since it will not be rough while driving on uneven surfaces.
Inside, the 2025 Fortuner GR Sport retains that premium and sporty feel. It features seats with Alcantara GR-badged, and metallic GR pedals. The cabin of the interior was designed in relation to its sporty character by placing the GR badges inside.
Details regarding the interior of the vehicle have not yet come to light; however, some of the speculated features in the 2025 model are that it would sport a leather-wrapped GR steering wheel and upholstery with red stitching. This makes the Fortuner GR Sport a more dynamic and exciting model.
As of now, the company currently sells the Fortuner GR Sport in India but is yet to issue an official stand on the availability of the updated 2025 variant that has more power in Indian dealerships. Already, at Rs. 51.94 lakh, the price for the prevailing Fortuner GR Sport variant stands as the costliest in its line.
Even though Toyota has not confirmed the launch of the 2025 model in India, there are certain reports that confirm the company is working on launching a hybrid variant of the Fortuner in the country. Most probably, the model will use a mild-hybrid system for improving fuel efficiency and offering slight power output addition.
Toyota Fortuner, currently, enjoys a leadership market share in premium SUVs here. Ford's Endeavour was the Fortuner's closest challenger. However, Ford left India last year and is planning to re-introduc. The direct challengers here include MG Gloster and the latest entrant, Skoda Kodiaq. Yet with such new offerings in the game, Fortuner is still that highly sought-out favorite SUV product across the land due to this reason and such strong design itself.
