Fortuner Hybrid and Sierra EV are on the way. Hyundai and Kia are preparing new hybrid SUVs. Five electrified SUVs expected in the next 12 months.
India's SUV market is getting ready for another exciting phase. Over the next 12 months, several new SUVs with hybrid and electric powertrains are expected to arrive. From the next-generation Toyota Fortuner to the Tata Sierra EV and Hyundai Creta Hybrid, these upcoming models will bring new technology, better efficiency, and more choices for SUV lovers.
Here's a look at five SUVs that are expected to make headlines in the coming months.
Toyota is working on the next-generation Fortuner, and test models have already been spotted overseas. The new SUV is expected to get a fresh exterior design, an updated cabin, and several new features. International versions are likely to offer petrol and diesel engines along with hybrid technology. Toyota is also expected to improve the SUV's off-road capability while making it more comfortable for everyday driving. The new Fortuner will continue to use a ladder-frame platform shared with the Hilux pickup.

Tata Motors is preparing to launch the Sierra EV, which will sit above the Nexon EV and Curvv EV. The electric SUV is expected to be offered with 65 kWh and 75 kWh battery packs. Rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions are also likely to be available. Tata could also offer Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) charging, allowing the SUV to power other devices or even charge another EV.
Kia is also working on a new electric SUV based on the Syros. The model is expected to be built in India and will compete with the Tata Nexon EV, Punch EV, and Mahindra XUV400. Like the regular Syros, it is likely to come with a long list of features, connected car technology, and modern safety equipment. The new EV will strengthen Kia's electric vehicle lineup in the country.
Kia is expected to bring the Sorento Hybrid to India as its new premium three-row SUV. It is likely to use a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with a hybrid system, producing around 227 hp. The SUV is also expected to offer dual 12.3-inch displays, Level 2 ADAS, and several premium comfort features. If launched, the Sorento Hybrid will give buyers another option in the premium SUV segment.
Hyundai is also preparing the next-generation Creta, and reports suggest it could get a strong hybrid powertrain for the first time. The new SUV is expected to feature a redesigned exterior, a more premium cabin, and new technology. The same hybrid system could also be used in the next-generation Kia Seltos and Hyundai's upcoming three-row SUV. With the Creta being one of India's best-selling SUVs, the hybrid version is expected to attract plenty of attention.
