Japanese automaker Toyota is developing an all-new lifestyle SUV, which will sit below the Fortuner in its line-up. Rumoured to be called the Land Cruiser FJ, the new SUV is reportedly to be revealed by November 2024. The SUV will first go on sale in Thailand by the end of this year or early next year.
The SUV will have a wheelbase of around 2,750mm, while the overall length will be around 4.5 meters. The new Toyota SUV will be sold in markets where Corolla Cross in not on sale. The SUV will be significantly smaller than the Toyota Fortuner. There is a possibility of this SUV arriving in India where it could fit well between the Urban Cruiser Hyryder and the Fortuner.
The styling of the new Toyota mini Land Cruiser will be inspired by the Compact Cruiser EV concept. It will have straight lines, square body and flared wheel arches. The SUV is expected to be launched in multiple markets in Europe, the Middle East, South America and Oceania.
The new mini Land Cruiser is designed to meet the strictest anti-pollution regulations. It will be powered by the same diesel engine with micro-hybrid tech that powers the Hilux lifestyle pick-up truck. The powertrain consists of a 2.8-litre, 4-cylinder turbodiesel engine benefitted with a belt-driven electric motor/generator, a small lithium battery and a converter.
Toyota claims that the Hilux diesel mild-hybrid saves around 6% to 10% of fuel, depending on the version. It also reduces Noise, Vibration and Harshness levels. This engine churns out a maximum power output of 204hp and 500Nm of torque.
Adding to it, the Toyota mini Land Cruiser will also receive a 2.7-litre petrol engine that produces 166bhp. An automatic gearbox will come as standard, while 4x4 drivetrain will be offered with multiple drive modes.
