Japanese automaker Toyota is all set to introduce the next-generation RAV4 SUV in the global markets next year. The current generation model was also snapped doing test rounds on the Indian roads. It was used to test Toyota's hybrid tech, which was later introduced in the Innova Hycross.
It was speculated that Toyota RAV4 will be offered with Toyota's next-generation petrol engines. These engines promise to be smaller, lighter and more fuel efficient. However, latest reports claim that the next-gen Toyota RAV4 will use an updated version of the 2.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol-electric hybrid with Toyota's latest lithium-ion battery technology.
The new RAV4 is not likely to see any major changes in terms of styling. It will be more of an evolution rather than a revolution. It will use the current underpinnings and bodywork to retain the original design. The SUV is likely to use the body shell and doors of the current model with a front and rear design inspired by the new breed of Toyota cars.
In the Japanese market, the Toyota RAV4 will receive a 2.0-litre non-hybrid petrol engine. The SUV in select European countries are also offered with the same engine; however, the next-gen model for Europe won't see petrol-only version.
The SUV will also receive the Plug-in hybrid engine, which will use the same 2.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine with a bigger battery packs and electric motors. The regular hybrid version uses the same 2.5L petrol engine with Toyota's latest hybrid tech offered with the latest Camry. In the FWD sedan, the hybrid setup offers a maximum power output of 228bhp. All-wheel-drive versions will also be offered with more power.
The next-gen Toyota RAV4 will be more fuel efficient than the current model. The latest Camry claims to offer 10% more efficiency than the previous model, and the same is expected with the new RAV4.
