Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to launch an all-new SUV in India, likely to be called the Victoris (Escudo). With just a month left for the official reveal, the SUV has been spotted testing frequently. In an exclusive scoop, camouflage has been digitally removed from one of the test mules, offering a clearer view of its design and styling.

The upcoming Maruti Victoris (Escudo) is expected to feature a design that blends elements from the existing Grand Vitara and the upcoming eVitara. While it will share the basic shape and proportions with the eVitara, some front and rear styling cues appear to be influenced by the Grand Vitara.
The front fascia looks bold and modern, featuring slim LED headlamps connected by a gloss black trim. The grille is wide and flanked by aggressive air dams and uniquely styled fog lamp housings. A silver skid plate is likely integrated into the front bumper for a rugged look. The rear end, as seen in the spy shots, will sport LED tail lamps connected by a sleek light bar. The body design emphasises aerodynamics while maintaining a tough road presence.
Interestingly, although the Escudo will be slotted below the Grand Vitara in Maruti’s product lineup, its dimensions are expected to be larger. It will be sold through Maruti’s Arena dealership network, making it the most premium offering in that channel. In terms of pricing, it will likely be more affordable than the Grand Vitara, which is sold through the Nexa network.
The Victoris (Escudo) will come packed with features, many of which are seen on the Grand Vitara. However, it will also introduce a few first-for-Maruti elements, making it stand out in the segment. The interior is expected to feature a large touchscreen infotainment system with wireless connectivity, a fully digital instrument cluster, a Head-Up Display (HUD), and connected car technology.
Additional highlights include ventilated seats, a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, rear AC vents, a wireless phone charger, a powered tailgate, and cruise control. These features will help position the Escudo as a strong contender in the mid-size SUV space.
In a major leap forward, the Escudo is expected to be the first Maruti Suzuki product to offer Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). According to reports, it will also be equipped with Dolby Atmos sound technology, usually seen in higher-end EVs like the Tata Harrier.EV and Mahindra XEV 9e. These additions show Maruti's intention to take safety and the in-car experience to the next level.
The safety package on the Escudo will be extensive. It is likely to include multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, hill hold assist, hill descent control, rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, ISOFIX mounts, and a tyre pressure monitoring system. In terms of engine options, the Escudo will not be an electric SUV. Instead, it will borrow its powertrains from the Grand Vitara.
This means buyers can expect three engine choices — a 1.5-litre K15C petrol mild hybrid producing 103 bhp, a 1.5-litre Atkinson cycle strong hybrid delivering 115 bhp, and a CNG version. The transmission options will include a five-speed manual, a six-speed torque converter automatic, and an e-CVT for the hybrid variant. Select versions of the Escudo will also offer an all-wheel-drive system, adding to its versatility.
Although the name ‘Victoris (Escudo)’ is currently being used internally, it may not be the final name for the SUV. Maruti Suzuki is expected to reveal the official name closer to the launch date. Regardless of its name, the SUV will become the second mid-size SUV in Maruti’s portfolio after the Grand Vitara and the first in the segment to be sold through Arena outlets.
Once launched, the Escudo will compete in the highly popular mid-size SUV segment. Its primary rivals will include the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Tata Curvv, and MG Astor. With segment-leading features like Level 2 ADAS, a panoramic sunroof, and Dolby Atmos, Maruti aims to attract a wide range of customers looking for a modern, tech-rich SUV experience.
