Renault is all set to bring back one of its most popular SUVs, the Duster, in an all-new avatar for the Indian market. The third-generation Renault Duster will launch in early 2026 with major updates in design, tech features, and engine options. This time, the SUV will be offered with multiple powertrains, including petrol, strong hybrid, CNG, and even an electric version.
Here is everything we know so far about the new-gen Renault Duster:
Renault is gearing up to launch the third-generation Duster SUV in India by the first quarter of 2026. The production will begin in September 2025 at the Renault-Nissan facility in Chennai. The first model to hit the roads will be a petrol-powered version, featuring a 1.3-litre turbocharged engine delivering 151bhp and 250Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. A 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol option with manual and CVT gearboxes is also expected.

Renault has confirmed that a strong hybrid version of the Duster will follow within a year of the petrol launch. The new Duster is based on the CMF-B modular platform, which also underpins the upcoming Bigster 7-seater SUV. The hybrid variant is expected to use a setup similar to the global-spec Duster, featuring a 1.6-litre petrol engine, a 49hp electric motor, a high-voltage starter generator, and a 1.2kWh battery — delivering a combined 140hp. This setup supports electric-only driving for up to 80% of city trips.
Renault is also working on introducing CNG and ethanol-powered versions of the Duster. The company is collaborating with local suppliers such as Minda Westport for CNG-related components. While details on the ethanol variant are still unclear, Renault has ruled out diesel and mild-hybrid options for future products.
In addition to the petrol and hybrid options, an all-electric Duster is being developed by Renault's sister brand Dacia. It will be based on the CMF-BEV platform, which also underpins Renault’s upcoming electric cars like the Renault 5 and 4. The Duster EV could feature a dual-motor setup offering 4x4 capabilities — a major boost for SUV enthusiasts looking for an electric off-roader. The EV version is expected to be revealed globally in November 2025.
