BMW Cars has just confirmed that it will be unveiling the iX1 electric SUV in India on September 28. It will become the fourth pure electric model in BMW India’s lineup, following the i7 premium sedan, iX SUV and the i4 compact sedan.
The 2023 BMW iX1 is essentially the pure electric version of the ICE-powered X1, which is the company's highest-selling SUV in FY 2023. The new iX1 shares most of its looks with the BMW X1. The biggest difference between the two SUVs is the light blue accents on the front air intakes, grille and side sills along with a different alloy wheel design.
Moving inside, the iX1 gets BMW’s new curved display unit that features a 10.7-inch infotainment system and 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. Other notable features include connected car tech, multi-zone climate control, keyless entry and go, powered and ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, and more.
The BMW iX1 uses a 66.5 kWh battery pack that powers a dual-electric motor setup. Combined, the electric SUV pumps out 313 bhp with 494 Nm of max torque. BMW claims the iX1 has a fully-charged range of 440 km. The battery also supports 130 kW DC fast charging.
BMW is expected to bring the iX1 to India via the CBU route, meaning prices will be on the more premium side. However, if demand is high, then the brand may start locally assembling the electric SUV as it already assembles the ICE-powered X1 in India.
Expect the iX1 to be priced somewhere around Rs 60 lakh (ex-showroom) - Rs 65 lakh (ex-showroom), making it the most affordable pure electric BMW sold in India. Upon launch, it will rival the Volvo XC40 Recharge, which is priced at Rs 56.9 lakh (ex-showroom).
