Ferrari Introduces The Open-Top 296 GTS to The World

Ferrari has finally taken the wraps off its V6 retractable top Berlinetta, the 296 GTS. This is the first V6 PHEV Ferrari to wear the Prancing Horse badge. The GTS is also the first rear-wheel-drive PHEV Ferrari ever produced.

Ferrari has unveiled the new 296 GTS, the open-top version of the company's new mid-engine hybrid supercar, the 296 GTB. The Berlinetta carries forward the revolutionary V6 hybrid introduced last year with the 296 GTB but with the more dramatic sound of the 'piccolo V12'.

What's new?

Ferrari 296 GTS sports a familiar design already seen on the 296 GTB but receives subtle changes to accommodate the convertible rooftop. The exterior upgrades are limited to a new deck lid design that stores the split-folding roof flush over the front of the engine. This has helped the designers to introduce a window towards the rear section of the engine cover through which the new V6 is clearly visible. Once the roof is down, a high-adjustable rear glass separates the cabin from the rear deck and guarantees comfort at high speeds. Despite the changes to accommodate the convertible roof, the Berlinetta maintains its aerodynamic efficiency and downforce compared to its fixed-roof counterpart. Years of experience in creating open-top vehicles have allowed Ferrari engineers to optimize the 296 GTS' roof to open and close in under 14 seconds, even at 45 kmph.

Ferrari 296 GTS Engine and Transmission:

The 296 GTS continues to carry forward the revolutionary 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 with PHEV. The engine produces a total power output of 830 bhp and 740 Nm torque. This powertrain option enables the convertible to sprint from 0-100 kmph in 2.9 seconds, having a top speed of 330 kmph. Compared to the coupe version, the convertible weighs 70 kilograms more for a total kerb weight of 1540 kilograms. Continuing its tradition, Ferrari has offered its track-focused Assetto Fiorano package on the 296 GTS. This pack brings Multimatic adjustable shock absorbers, carbon fibre aero and trim elements, and various weight-saving measures, along with high-performance Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tyres to the vehicle.

Ferrari has not officially announced its plans for India, but we expect the company to open bookings soon and start deliveries by the third quarter of 2022.
