Jeep's next SUV will use Tata's ARGOS platform. India-made model to be sold in over 50 countries. Tata's 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine likely to power it.
Jeep has officially confirmed plans for an all-new SUV that will be built using Tata Motors’ latest platform, marking a major development for both brands. The upcoming model will be developed and manufactured in India before being exported to more than 50 countries worldwide.
The announcement was made during Stellantis’ 2026 Investor Day, where the company revealed that Tata Motors will provide the platform and engine technology for a future Jeep SUV. The new model is expected to arrive around 2028 and could become one of the most important products for Jeep in India.

While Stellantis has not officially named the architecture, industry sources suggest that the new SUV will be based on Tata Motors’ ARGOS platform.
The same platform recently debuted with the Tata Sierra and has been designed to support multiple powertrain options, including petrol, hybrid and electric setups. It can also accommodate all-wheel-drive systems, a key requirement for any Jeep product.
The platform's flexibility and modern technology are believed to be among the main reasons why Stellantis selected it over several other alternatives.
The upcoming Jeep SUV will be developed in India and produced at the Ranjangaon manufacturing facility near Pune.
This plant is jointly operated by Tata Motors and Stellantis and already manufactures multiple vehicles for both companies. The new Jeep will not be limited to the Indian market, as exports are planned to regions including Asia Pacific, the Middle East, Africa and South America.
For India’s automotive industry, it is a significant achievement as a locally developed platform will serve as the foundation for a global Jeep product.
The partnership extends beyond the platform.
Tata Motors is also expected to supply its 1.5-litre turbocharged direct-injection petrol engine, which currently powers models such as the Sierra, Harrier and Safari.
The engine has been engineered to comply with future BS7 and Euro 7 regulations, making it suitable for global markets. It could also help Jeep address one of its biggest challenges in India—the lack of a petrol engine option in models like the Compass and Meridian.

Although the platform and engine will come from Tata Motors, Jeep will develop its own vehicle.
The SUV will receive unique styling, a dedicated interior layout, different suspension tuning and Jeep-specific engineering to ensure it delivers the brand’s signature driving and off-road experience.
Global Stellantis teams are expected to oversee the development process.
An electric version of the SUV remains a strong possibility.
Since the ARGOS platform supports EV technology, Stellantis may introduce a fully electric variant alongside the petrol model. This would help the company expand its EV portfolio and meet future emission requirements.
A diesel option appears unlikely at this stage due to platform compatibility and changing market trends.
