The long-awaited Mahindra Thar Roxx has been launched. The SUV was showcased to media at an exclusive drive event. The company has already teased the design and interior features of the 5-door Thar Roxx, which suggests that the new model is a big step-up from the 3-door model. Stay tuned to CarLelo for more updates on the same.
Mahindra has launched the Thar Roxx's base MX1 petrol and diesel trims for Rs. 12.99 and Rs. 13.99 lakh, introductory ex-showroom, respectively.
The Thar Roxx comes with Mahindra's 4Xplor off-road setup with an electronic brake locking differential (E-BLD) and an electronic locking differential (ELD). This is the same setup available in the Scorpio N. It also receive Crawl Smart Assist and Intelli Turn Assist functions, which further aids off road capabilities.
The Thar Roxx comes as a more family oriented lifestyle SUV, which not only offers excellent off-road capabilities but good feature-loaded cabin along with better driving experience. The SUV gets modern tech with features like wireless connectivity, digital instrument console, a multi-functional steering wheel, armrests in the second-row, panoramic sunroof, leatherette seats, ventilated front seats, automatic climate control and others.
The new Thar Roxx comes with an independent front suspension setup with double wishbones and a multilink rear setup with Watts linkage. It also gets 'Frequency Dependent Damping' technology, which is available in the Scorpio N.
The Mahindra Thar Roxx is offered with 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol and 2.2-litre 4-cylinder turbo diesel engines. The diesel engine is tuned to offer two states of tunes - 150bhp with 350Nm, and 172Nm with 370Nm. On the other hand, the gasoline unit also offers two states of tunes - 160bhp with 330Nm, and a 175bhp with 380Nm. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.

The Thar Roxx wheelbase is increased by more than 150mm compared to the 3-door model, which allows Mahindra engineers to create more space inside the cabin.
The length has been increased to add dedicated rear doors for easy ingress and egress for the second-row occupants. Gone are the times when Thar owner has to climb through the front seats to access the second-row.
The longer wheelbase also adds to bigger boot space, which makes it a more practical offering compared to the regular model.

Some of the features will include a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless smartphone connectivity, a 10.25-inch digital driver's display, leatherette seats with ventilation functions, a Harman Kardon sound system, powered driver's seat, a 360-degree camera, wireless charging, and an auto-dimming IRVM.
Previous teasers confirm that the new Thar Roxx will come with several modern features that are missing in 3-door Thar. In fact, it gets more features and tech compared to the Scorpio-N. The SUV comes with a panoramic sunroof, which makes it the first model based on ladder-frame chassis to get panoramic sunroof.
The teaser reveals the front fascia of the SUV, which looks significantly different from the 3-door model. It comes with a C-shaped LED daytime running lights and a six-slat grille. As a reference, the 3-door model has halogen headlamps. It seems like Mahindra has heard customers feedback for stronger headlights and given the Thar Roxx a projector pair this time. There is a front camera mounted in the centre of the grille.
The new Thar Roxx is a five-door lifestyle SUV, which is based on the new 3G platform that debuted in the Scorpio-N. The platform is modified for an off-roader SUV. Not just platform, the Thar Roxx also shares its mechanical parts and engine options with the Scorpio-N.
