Maruti Suzuki is working on an all-new Series hybrid powertrain, which will be introduced in a few of its existing models. One of these will be the Fronx SUV, which will feature the in-house developed Series hybrid tech. The same hybrid engine is also expected to power the Baleno hatchback and the upcoming compact MPV.
Maruti Suzuki is likely to offer a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine, mated with a strong hybrid technology. This engine will work as a generator to charge the battery pack, while the propulsion of the vehicle will be done by an electric motor. The highest fuel efficiency of the Fronx hybrid could be somewhere around 30-35 kmpl.
Apart from the hybrid tech, Maruti Suzuki Fronx is likely to get its first facelift since its launch in April 2023. From the design perspective, we can expect subtle changes from the outside. While inside, the vehicle is likely to come with a well-equipped cabin and some new features. The Fronx facelift could also get an electric sunroof which is missing in the current model.
Maruti has been using Toyota's hybrid technology for its hybrid models. At present, it offers this hybrid tech in top-end models such as Grand Vitara and Invicto. However, with the in-house development of the hybrid engine, Maruti is likely to keep the price in check. The upcoming Maruti Suzuki Fronx and Baleno will be affordable hybrid models in the future.
