Maruti Suzuki is set to broaden its product range with the introduction of a new compact MPV. Codenamed YDB, the upcoming mini MPV will be based on the Suzuki Spacia, which is quite a popular model in Japan. It is believed that the Indian model is expected to launch by 2026.

According to media reports, the India-based compact MPV will feature a distinctive appearance to make it look different from the one sold in Japan. In terms of length, the Japanese Spacia measures 3,395mm while the India-based Mini MPV could be slightly longer. However, it will still fall under the sub-4m category. In consequence, the upcoming vehicle will have an additional third row of seating, departing from the two-row configuration offered in the foreign model.
Furthermore, the four-wheeler will have some notable changes to make it more affordable for Indian customers. For instance, there will be no sliding rear doors, offered in the Japan-based model.
In addition, it is expected to have a dashboard layout similar to other Maruti models, i.e., Baleno, Fronx, and the upcoming Swift. Despite these changes, there will be some similarities, such as its boxy shape. Its front end will offer a blacked-out grille with chrome, a wide air dam incorporated within the bumper and rectangular headlights.

In Japan, the Spacia is considered a light car, thus it comes equipped with a 660cc petrol engine. But for India, the YDB will probably get a 1.2-litre Z Series petrol unit, the same one which would be coming in the Next-Generation Swift. Transmission options will include a manual and an automatic gearbox.
