Encouraged by how much people like their hybrid cars, Maruti Suzuki wants to make more of them for everyone to buy. According to a recent media report, the homegrown automaker is planning to make hybrid versions of the Fronx, Baleno, Swift, and a small MPV.
Let us dig a bit deeper.
Reports suggest that Maruti Suzuki will not rely on Toyota's hybrid technology. Instead, they are creating their own hybrid engine which would be called HEV.
This type of hybrid engine, called a series hybrid, is cheaper to make compared to other types like series-parallel and parallel hybrids. In addition, it works by using an internal combustion engine to generate electricity, which then powers an electric motor, extending the vehicle's range.
The report suggests that the brand might release the Fronx hybrid next year. It is believed that this car could be one of the most fuel-efficient, offering a mileage figure of around 35 kmpl.
Besides the Fronx, it is also expected that the company would offer the Baleno in the hybrid version slated for a 2026 introduction. The Swift Hybrid will come in the following year. The Next-Generation Brezza, which is also rumoured to be a hybrid, is likely to hit the market around the year 2029.
Maruti Suzuki is also preparing some exciting introductions for 2024. These would include the upgrades to Swift and Dzire to make both models more relevant for the Indian consumer. Further, a 7-seater version of the Grand Vitara is also believed to be on the cards. Apart from this, Maruti Suzuki's foray into the electric vehicle segment with the entry of eVX is much awaited.
