The Grand Vitara debuts in the Indian market; To be sold through the Nexa dealership chain; Bookings are open
Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has introduced an all new flagship SUV in the Indian market. Christened the Grand Vitara, this SUV replaces the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross in the company’s line-up as the flagship model. This new mid-size SUV is Maruti’s version of the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and has been co-developed by both the companies. The SUVs share powertrain, platform, features and manufacturing facilities.
Compared to the previous JV products, the Grand Vitara is considerably different from its cousin, the Hyryder. The front fascia is characterised by a large grille which is flanked by a 3 pod individual LED DRL. The main headlight unit gets LED projector set-up and placed on the lower half of the bumper. Moving to the side, the Grand Vitara resembles the Hyryder to a great extent with similar body lines, but sport different design alloy wheel. Towards the rear, the horizontally stacked all-LED tail lights run across the boot emphasising the width of the vehicle.
The interiors of Grand Vitara share a lot of components with Hyryder, barring the upholstery and colour theme. Like we have seen on the Toyota, the Maruti SUV gets a panoramic sunroof, 360-degree parking camera, ventilated seats, a heads-up display, a free-standing 9.0 touchscreen infotainment system with connected car tech and a digital instrument cluster.
In terms of safety, the car comes equipped with safety tech such as 6 airbags, TPMS, vehicle stability control, hill hold and hill descend control among others.
The Grand Vitara is powered by the 1.5 litre K15C naturally aspirated engine petrol engine with a mild hybrid system producing 101 bhp and 138 Nm of peak torque. The setup is mated either mated to a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter unit. This version also gets Suzuki’s All Grip AWD system with four driving modes namely Auto, Sand, Snow and Lock.
The strong hybrid powertrain comes with a 1.5 litre Atkinson cycle petrol engine paired to an electric motor producing a combined power output of 114 bhp and 141 Nm of peak torque. The setup is mated to an e-CVT gearbox which channels the power to the front wheels. This system delivers a claimed fuel efficient of 27.97 kmpl, making it the most fuel efficient SUV in the country.
Stated to launch on a later date, the Grand Vitara will rival the likes of the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Astor and Volkswagen Taigun. Interested customers can book the Grand Vitara at their nearest NEXA dealership or through the NEXAVerse AR dealership.
