Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that it will be launching the SL roadster in India next month. Currently, in its 7th Generation, the convertible will arrive as a CBU (Completely Built Unit). Upon launch, it will become the second Mercedes convertible on sale in India, following the E-Class Cabriolet. We take a closer look.
The SL is the flagship two-door convertible for Mercedes-Benz. It is also one of the oldest nameplates in the brand’s history, going back to 190 SL in the 50s. In India, the brand had previously offered the 5th-gen model in 2012. The latest 7th-Generation SL also replaces the S-Class Cabriolet, AMG GT Roadster and the previous-gen SL in the automaker’s global lineup.
In terms of design, the New SL looks much sportier than the older model with its wide Panamericana grille, angular digital headlights, and sculpted bonnet. Move to the sides and you will notice the short overhangs, flared wheel arches, and a soft-top roof. Towards the rear, the vehicle provides sleek LED tail lights, quad exhausts, and an integrated rear spoiler.

The German automaker has packed the new SL’s cabin with features such as an 11.9-inch portrait-oriented infotainment system, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, ventilated & powered front seats, auto climate control, keyless entry & go, ambient lighting, Burmester audio system, and more.
The brand will be bringing the 2023 SL in its AMG 55 guise to India. Powered by a 4-litre twin-turbo petrol motor, it delivers 478 bhp with 700 Nm of peak torque. Transmission duty is handled by a 9-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. The roadster also gets a more powerful AMG 63 variant in global markets but the manufacturer is unlikely to bring it to our country.
