Mercedes-Benz recently released the first teaser of its upcoming Maybach EQS 680 SUV. While the teaser does not reveal much, the exterior design is expected to be similar to the Mercedes EQS 580. It is the Maybach details that will make it different from its sibling. The new luxury electric SUV will be fully revealed next month at the Shanghai Motor Show. Here is what to expect from the upcoming Maybach EQS 680.
The New Maybach EQS 680’s exterior design will have a similar cab-forward to its Mercedes EQS sibling, but will have a few key differences. The front end will feature a new chromed-out, vertically-slatted faux grille and a bumper similar to the Maybach GLS. The bonnet will also offer the Three-Pointed Star ornament in place of the badge. Towards the side, it is expected to get chrome trim around the windowline and Maybach badging on the D-pillar while the rear doors would be larger than the EQS 580. Speaking about the rear, there will be chrome surrounds around the LED tail lights and the bumper.
Inside, the Maybach EQS 680’s interior will be fitted with more premium material like wood inserts on the center console & door panels, and piano black leather seats. The electric SUV will feature a triple screen setup with a 17.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, two 12.3-inch screens for the digital instrument cluster and passenger-side display. Other notable equipment would include connected car tech, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, front seats with massage function, a MBUX tablet for rear passengers, and a premium audio setup from Burmester. The four wheeler will provide ADAS-features like Lane Assist, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Cross-Traffic Assist, Collision Warning, Blind Spot Assist, and more.
Mercedes is likely to offer the Maybach EQS 680 with the same dual-motor powertrain as the one seen on the EQS 580. The latter currently delivers a power output of 536 bhp with 858 Nm of peak torque. The German automaker could change the performance characteristics of the powertrain in the Maybach in order to compensate for the extra weight.
The Maybach EQS’s dual motors will be powered by a 107.8 kWh battery pack that supports 200 kW fast charging. Expect a range of more than 550 kms on a single full charge.
The new electric vehicle is expected to go on sale in global markets by mid-2023. Mercedes is expected to bring the upcoming SUV to India by the end of 2023 at the earliest. Like the Mercedes EQS 580 and the Maybach S-Class, EQS 680 will also be assembled in the country.
