MG IM6 launch expected later this year Likely price: Rs 60–70 lakh (ex-showroom) Will compete with Tesla Model Y in India
JSW MG Motor India is all set to expand its premium electric vehicle lineup with the upcoming MG IM6 SUV-coupe, which is expected to launch later this year. The new EV will be sold through the brand’s MG Select dealership network and will directly compete with the Tesla Model Y, already available in India.
With both models targeting the same premium EV space, buyers will soon have two very different options to choose from.
The Tesla Model Y is priced from Rs. 59.89 lakh (ex-showroom) and comes with a five-seat layout. It measures 4,790mm in length and focuses heavily on simplicity inside the cabin.
The dashboard is dominated by a 16-inch touchscreen that controls almost everything, along with an 8-inch screen for rear passengers. There are minimal physical controls, which gives it a clean and modern look.
In terms of features, it includes a panoramic glass roof, powered seats, premium audio, and connected car tech. Safety is also a strong point, with multiple airbags and a full set of ADAS features like lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and forward-collision alert.

The upcoming MG IM6 takes a more feature-rich and futuristic approach.
It gets a wide digital cockpit setup with a large 26.3-inch infotainment display and an additional 10.5-inch central touchscreen. The system supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8295 chip, ensuring faster performance and better connectivity.
The IM6 will also offer four-wheel steering, which improves manoeuvrability, especially in tight city conditions. It is expected to come with an advanced ADAS suite to enhance safety and driving convenience.
While the Tesla Model Y focuses on a clean and software-driven experience, the MG IM6 is designed to offer a more premium and tech-loaded cabin.
This difference in approach gives buyers more choice, whether they prefer Tesla’s simple and efficient setup or MG’s feature-packed and futuristic feel.
The MG IM6 is likely to be priced between Rs. 60 lakh and Rs. 70 lakh (ex-showroom), placing it directly against the Tesla Model Y.
