JSW MG Motor is set to expand its electric product portfolio with two luxury EVs in India – the Cyberster roadster and Mifa 9 MPV. Both models will be sold via its new premium ‘MG Select’ retail network, initially targeting 12 major cities by the first quarter of 2025. MG Select outlets will be completely different from MG’s regular showrooms in terms of aesthetics and communication materials. These outlets will be reserved for NEVs (New Energy Vehicles) and will retail vehicles with different powertrains.
The MG Cyberster will be the first model sold via MG Select. It’s MG’s first-ever electric sportscar and is offered with two battery pack and motor options in global markets. The base version comes with a 64kWh battery and an electric motor mounted on the rear axle. This setup delivers a claimed power output of 308bhp and offers a claimed range of 520km.
The higher trim uses a 77kWh battery and two electric motors. Its combined power and torque outputs stand at 544bhp and 725Nm, respectively. With the larger battery, the electric sportscar offers a CLTC-rated range of 580km on a single charge. In India, the MG Cyberster will compete with the Hyundai Ioniq 5, BYD Seal, and Kia EV6.
The MG Mifa 9 is expected to launch in India by March 2025, with an anticipated price of around Rs 65 lakh (ex-showroom). For those unfamiliar, this luxury MPV is already on sale in the UK and China as the Maxus Mifa 9. Its powertrain setup includes a 90kWh lithium battery and an electric motor mounted on the front axle. With the FWD (front-wheel drive) system, it delivers a maximum power of 245bhp and 350Nm of torque. Its claimed WLTP range is 430km.
Dimensionally, the MG Mifa 9 is larger than the Kia Carnival and Toyota Vellfire. Globally, it is offered with 7- and 8-seat configuration options. Some of its key features include twin sunroofs, fold-out ottoman seats, powered front and rear seats with heating, ventilation, and massage functions, powered rear sliding doors, rear entertainment screens, and more.
