JSW MG Motor India is getting aggressive with its product strategy for the Indian market. Buoyed by the excellent response for the Windsor EV, the company is prepping a three-pronged SUV offensive for 2026-27. The brand’s upcoming SUV line-up comprising the Starlight 560, Majestor and iM6 - offering plug-in hybrid tech to luxury off-roaders and high-end electrics.

The new MG Majestor will be successor to the Gloster. It is based on a traditional, ladder-frame SUV, and will directly rival the Toyota Fortuner. Powering the Majestor is a 2.0-litre, twin-turbo diesel engine that produces 215hp and 478Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The SUV can be had with rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive layouts.  The 4WD version offers 10 off-road modes, an 810mm water wading depth and triple differential locks.

It will be offered in 3 variants, Sharp RWD, Sharp 4WD and Savvy 4WD. Estimated to be priced around Rs 50 lakh, the Majestor gets a long list of comfort and convenience features. JSW MG Motor India will enter the plug-in hybrid segment by March 2027, and its first PHEV will be based on the Wuling Starlight 560. The company has filed a design patent for the Starlight 560 SUV. Interestingly, the company is considering both PHEV and all-electric derivative of the Starlight 560 for the Indian market. The SUV will take on the Mahindra XUV 7XO and the XEV 9S.

The global-spec model is available in both 5 and 7-seat options. It is offered with three powertrain choices, including petrol, plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and electric. The ICE powered model gets a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, turbo petrol engine that produces 177bhp. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and a CVT automatic. This version is not likely to arrive in our market. JSW MG could aim to introduce only the PHEV and EV versions of the SUV in a 7-seater avatar.

The PHEV gets a 106hp, 1.5L NA petrol engine, a 20.5kWh battery pack and a front-axle-mounted electric motor. The combined power and torque output stands at 197hp and 230Nm, respectively.
