MG Windsor EV has become an instant hit for JSW MG Motor India. The electric MPV has topped the sales chart within five months of its market arrival, surpassing the segment leader Tata Nexon EV and Punch EV. Now, the Windsor EV has achieved a new production milestone of 15,000 units, with nearly 200 bookings per day.
Considering the high market demand, the carmaker is planning to increase its production after modifying its Halol manufacturing facility. This production plant will also serve as assembly hub for the upcoming MG M9 electric luxury MPV and MG Cyberster electric sportscar, which are ready to launch in March 2025. Both these models will be exclusively available through MG Select premium dealership network. Currently, MG’s Halol facility produces over 1 lakh units on annual basis. After the planned modifications, the carmaker aims to ramp up production to up to three lakh units per annum by around 2027.
The electric MPV comes with a 38kWh LFP battery featuring prismatic cells, which offers a claimed range of 331km. It has a front axle-mounted electric motor, developing a maximum power of 136bhp and 200Nm of torque. The MPV offers four driving modes – Eco+, Eco, Normal and Sport.
The carmaker claims its LFP battery can be charged via three options – 45kW fast charging, a 3.3kWh and a 7.7kW AC charger. The fast charger takes nearly 55 minutes to juice it up from 0 to 80 percent, while the 3.3kW and 7.7kW AC chargers can charge it fully in around 14 hours and 6.5 hours, respectively.
At present, the entry-level Excite variant of the Windsor EV is priced at Rs 13.50 lakh. The Exclusive and Essence variants are available at Rs 14.50 lakh and Rs 15.50 lakh, respectively (all, ex-showroom).
MG has packed its new electric offering with several advanced features, available right from the base variant. The Excite variant comes equipped with a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, auto climate control, cruise control, reclining rear seats, wireless smartphone connectivity, driver’s seat manual height adjust, 6 speakers, 6 airbags, hill start assist control, hill descent control, electronic parking brake with auto hold, auto headlamps, tyre pressure monitoring system and more.
Features such as PM2.5 filter, ambient lighting, Infinity 9-speaker audio system, glass roof, ventilated front seats and a 7.4kW AC fast charger are reserved for the range-topping Essence trim.
