We informed you earlier that Hyundai is working on the next generation i20 hatchback that has been caught testing in Europe. This time around, the new-gen Hyundai i20 prototype has been spotted in Spain. The spied vehicle has less camouflage on nose, revealing interesting details.

The latest spy images confirm that the next i20 will be a completely new model. It comes with Hyundai’s new design language, offering a boxier and tough stance. The new-gen Hyundai i20 hatchback will come with a full-width daytime running lamps and a boxy honeycomb grille.
There is a sharp angle at the top of the A-pillar, which is common in the latest angular design language debuted with the Hyundai Santa Fe. Instead of busy character lines in the current car, the next i20 side profile has smoother surfaces. The flatter pillars, a rising beltline and flared wheel arches adds to its crossover-styling.

The rear profile is heavily covered with thick cloth, but we can see the newly designed tail-lights. Exhaust pipe is clearly visible on the bumper, confirming that the new model is an ICE model. However, an electric derivative of the new-gen Hyundai i20 based on an EV-specific platform is also under development.
The cabin is also expected to receive big changes. It is likely to get all-new dashboard layout, featuring a modern digital cockpit and new features from latest Hyundai’s EV lineup. We expect the new hatch to get a connected screen for infotainment and digital instrument console, LEVEL-2 ADAS tech, sunroof, ventilated and powered front seats, etc.
The next i20 hatchback is likely to feature an updated version of the current platform. It is expected to be offered with multiple petrol engines with mild-hybrid tech. However, a strong hybrid version could also be introduced.
The next-gen Hyundai i20 N hot hatch is also expected with a hybrid powertrain. It won’t get a manual gearbox as the current model, but the power and torque output could be increased.
The next-gen Hyundai i20 is expected to be revealed sometime in 2026. It is expected to first launch in Europe in 2027. Hyundai could introduce the next i20 in India sometime in 2027-28. It will rival the Maruti Baleno, which will also enter the next-gen in 2026-27 with a strong hybrid engine.
