We informed you earlier that Honda is preparing 6 new cars including Electric Vehicles and a new 7-seater SUV for the Indian market. The next big launch from the Japanese brand will be the new-gen Honda Amaze that has been caught testing multiple times, giving us a glimpse of its exterior. The production of the new Honda Amaze is likely to begin towards the end of this year.
The big news is that the third-generation Amaze will be based on an all-new platform. The existing model is designed and developed on the Brio's platform; however, the next model will be based on the City's platform that also underpins the Elevate mid-sized SUV.
The City and Elevate have a wheelbase of 2600mm and 2650mm, respectively. However, the Amaze will have a significantly shorter wheelbase. In fact, the current model rides on a 2470mm long wheelbase. The platform will be modified to accommodate a sub-4 meter sedan. Using a common platform will help Honda Cars India to achieve economies of scale.
In order to compete well in the market, Honda would aim to give the new Amaze several high-end features that are missing in the current model. The cabin layout is expected to be shared with the Elevate sedan. The dashboard will feature a larger, free-standing touchscreen infotainment unit, which will be compatible with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
It will be equipped with a semi-digital instrument console, automatic climate control, a single pane-sunroof, and fabric upholstery. The top-spec model could get leatherette upholstery, ADAS tech and a 360-degree surround view camera. It could receive a camera-based ADAS system with features like autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane assist, auto high beam and others.
The new Honda Amaze will retain the overall silhouette with the existing model; however, styling elements will be completely different. Its design will be inspired from the Honda sedans on sale in global markets. Similar to the 2nd gen Amaze, the new compact sedan will follow the design highlights of the Accord sedan.
The spy images reveal that the sedan will have new LED tail lamps with smoked treatment, a reverse camera, 3 fixed headrests for the rear passengers, and a shark fin antenna. It will have the familiar Honda fascia with the large front grille, flanked by LED headlamps and a chrome bar that runs above the grille. The sedan could get a new front bumper with a wider and slimmer air dam and fog lamp housing on either side.
The new Amaze will receive the existing 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine that also powers the current model. This engine churns out a maximum power output of 90hp and 110Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and a CVT automatic.
The production of the new Honda Amaze is expected to begin towards the end of this year. It is likely to be launched in January 2025, most probably at the next edition of Bharat Mobility Show. The new model will rival the likes of the Hyundai Aura, Tata Tigor and the upcoming Maruti Dzire. We expect the new Honda Amaze to cost somewhere between Rs 7 lakh and Rs 11 lakh.
