New Hyundai Bayon SUV for India - Bigger Than Expected

Hyundai Bayon to arrive in India as a new mid-size SUV Upcoming SUV expected with petrol and CNG powertrains New Bayon likely to slot between Venue and Creta

Hyundai is preparing a brand-new SUV for the Indian market, and fresh details suggest it could be much bigger than earlier expected.

The upcoming model is likely to be the next-generation Hyundai Bayon, which is expected to launch in India during the second half of next year.

Interestingly, instead of becoming a small sub-4 metre SUV, the new Bayon is now expected to enter the highly competitive mid-size SUV segment.

Bigger Than Earlier Reports Suggested

Earlier reports claimed Hyundai could shrink the Bayon into a compact SUV to rival models like the Maruti Fronx. However, new information now suggests otherwise.

The current Bayon sold in international markets measures around 4.18 metres in length, and the next-generation version is expected to retain a similar footprint.

That means the SUV will comfortably sit in the mid-size SUV category in India.

During Hyundai Motor India’s Q4 FY2026 earnings conference call, MD and CEO Tarun Garg also confirmed that the company will launch a new mid-size SUV in FY2027. He specifically clarified that the SUV would measure more than four metres in length.

To Slot Between Venue and Creta

The new Bayon is expected to sit between the next-generation Venue and the future Creta in Hyundai’s SUV lineup.

This could help Hyundai target buyers looking for a practical urban SUV that feels more premium and spacious than a compact SUV but remains more affordable than the Creta.

The company appears to be carefully expanding its SUV range to cover every major segment in India.

Petrol and CNG Options Likely

Hyundai is expected to offer the new Bayon with a naturally aspirated petrol engine along with a factory-fitted CNG version.

The CNG model will likely use a dual-cylinder setup, helping preserve boot space while improving practicality.

At launch, Hyundai is expected to focus on ICE powertrains, while hybrid or electric options could be explored later depending on market demand.

Creta to Move Further Upmarket

The next-generation Creta, expected in 2027, is likely to grow in size and become more premium than the current model.

Reports suggest the future Creta could get a more advanced platform, hybrid technology, and major feature upgrades.

This would allow Hyundai to position the Bayon as a slightly more affordable and city-friendly SUV while the Creta moves further upmarket.
