Next-gen Kia Sonet spotted testing in India SUV expected with panoramic sunroof and ADAS New Sonet launch likely in 2027
Kia has started testing the next-generation Sonet on Indian roads ahead of its expected launch in 2027.
The Sonet has been one of Kia’s most successful SUVs in India since its launch in 2020. In fact, it was the brand’s first India-focused model and has already crossed more than 5 lakh unit sales in the country.
Now, Kia is preparing a major update for the compact SUV with a fresh design, upgraded cabin, and more premium features.

The upcoming Sonet, internally codenamed QY2E, was recently spotted testing for the first time. Even though the test mule was heavily camouflaged, a few important details were still visible.
The new Sonet is expected to get a wider grille placed lower on the front bumper for a sportier look. Kia could also introduce split headlamps, giving the SUV a more aggressive front design.
The bumper and lower air intake will also be completely redesigned.
From the side, the SUV appears to feature a slightly higher beltline, which adds a more dynamic appearance. New dual-tone alloy wheels inspired by the latest Seltos are also expected.
At the rear, the Sonet is likely to get redesigned connected tail lamps along with an updated tailgate and bumper setup.
One of the biggest expected upgrades is the addition of a panoramic sunroof.
The current Sonet comes with a single-pane sunroof, but Kia may now offer a larger panoramic unit to make the SUV feel more premium.
Inside the cabin, the next-generation model is expected to receive a completely redesigned dashboard, centre console, steering wheel, and door trims.
Reports suggest the SUV could feature a 9.9-inch digital instrument cluster along with a larger 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
The new system is likely to run Hyundai-Kia’s latest Pleos Connect software, which is based on Android Automotive OS.

The next-gen Sonet is also expected to receive major safety upgrades.
Kia could introduce a Level 2 ADAS suite with features like adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, autonomous emergency braking, and more.
This would help the Sonet stay competitive in the crowded compact SUV segment.
The upcoming Sonet is expected to use the K1 platform, which also underpins the Kia Syros.
At launch, Kia is likely to continue with the existing petrol and diesel engine options. No major changes to the powertrain lineup are expected initially.
However, Kia has already confirmed that a hybrid version of the Sonet is planned before the end of the decade, likely around 2028.
The next-generation Kia Sonet is expected to launch in India sometime in the second quarter of 2027.
