Tata Motors will launch 3 new electric vehicles in the country before the end of FY26. The production-ready Harrier EV is expected to debut at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Show with launch expected in Q1, 2025. Similarly, Tata Safari will also receive an electric derivative in the country in 2025. The big news is that the iconic Tata Sierra will make a comeback in a new avatar in FY26.
Tata Motors had showcased the Sierra EV concept at the 2023 Auto Expo. Tata has confirmed that the production version of the SUV will be launched before the end of FY26, most probably towards the end of 2025 or in the first quarter of 2026. What's big is that Tata Sierra will follow the Curvv's strategy, where customers will have multiple powertrain and gearbox options to choose from.
The Tata Sierra concept measure 4.3 meters in length, which is also the size of Curvv and Seltos. However, the Sierra will be marketed as a lifestyle SUV and will not have a direct rival in our market. The ICE version of the SUV could come as an affordable alternative to the likes of the Mahindra Scorpio N and the Thar Roxx.
Tata Sierra EV will be based on the Acti.ev architecture that underpins the Punch EV and the Curvv EV. This electric SUV will come with a dual-motor AWD setup, which will also be offered on the Harrier EV and the Safari EV. It is expected to receive a battery pack of around 60kWh to 80kWh. The SUV could offer a range of over 500kms on a single charge.
The ICE version of the Sierra lifestyle SUV is likely to receive Tata's new 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that debuted at the 2023 Auto Expo. This T-GDI petrol engine is capable of producing 170PS of power and 280Nm of torque. The same powertrain could be offered on the Harrier and Safari SUVs.
Tata Motors confirmed that the production version of the Sierra will look largely identical to the original concept. It will be offered with a 5-seater configuration as standard; however, the top-spec model will receive a four-seater lounge version with two captain seats. The ICE version of the Sierra will be based on the ATLAS platform, which will be used for vehicles measuring between 3.9m and 4.6m in length. In fact, the new Tata Curvv is based on this platform and is compatible enough to accommodate multiple body styles.
