Tata preparing several new AWD SUVs for India. Sierra EV and Safari EV likely to get dual-motor setups. Avinya X AWD could arrive in 2027.
Tata Motors is getting ready to expand its AWD SUV lineup in India in a big way. After bringing back all-wheel-drive technology with the Harrier.ev, the company is now planning several new SUVs with AWD options over the next couple of years.
These upcoming SUVs will not just focus on city driving. They are expected to attract buyers who enjoy road trips, mountain drives and adventure travel while still wanting comfort and modern features.
Here’s a look at the top 4 Tata AWD SUVs expected to launch soon in India.
The Tata Sierra EV is expected to be one of the first upcoming Tata SUVs to get an AWD setup. The electric SUV is likely to launch sometime in the next few months.
Tata could offer the Sierra EV with both rear-wheel-drive and dual-motor AWD versions. The AWD model is expected to use two electric motors for better grip and stronger performance.
The Sierra EV is likely to sit between the Curvv.ev and Harrier.ev in Tata’s electric lineup. It could also come packed with premium features like a panoramic sunroof, connected car tech, large screens and advanced safety features.

Tata is also preparing the all-electric version of the Safari SUV for India. The Safari.ev is expected to arrive around the festive season later this year.
Like the Harrier.ev, the Safari.ev is likely to get both RWD and AWD options. The dual-motor version could deliver nearly 390 hp, making it one of Tata’s most powerful SUVs.
The Safari.ev will mainly target buyers looking for a large family SUV with electric performance, long driving range and premium comfort.
It is also expected to get multiple terrain modes, panoramic sunroof, ADAS and other modern features.
Tata is not limiting AWD technology only to electric SUVs. The upcoming ICE-powered Sierra is also expected to get an AWD option in 2027.
The SUV is likely to come with petrol and diesel engine choices. However, the AWD setup may only be offered with the more powerful turbocharged engine variants.
The Sierra ICE AWD is expected to focus more on highway touring and adventure driving rather than hardcore off-roading.
With its retro-inspired design and modern cabin, the Sierra could become one of Tata’s most exciting launches in the coming years.
Another important Tata SUV expected to get AWD technology is the production version of the Avinya X concept.
The Avinya range will be positioned as Tata’s premium EV brand and will feature a completely fresh design and futuristic cabin layout.
The Avinya X is expected to launch in 2027 as a large electric SUV-coupe. Tata could offer both rear-wheel-drive and dual-motor AWD versions.
The AWD model will likely focus on long-distance touring, performance and premium driving experience.
