The Indian hybrid SUV market is growing at a massive rate, and numerous new models will be arriving in the next few years. The 7-seater SUVs will be offering space along with fuel efficiency to a large extent. Maruti Suzuki, Toyota, Hyundai, Honda, and Kia will be offering these cars, which will feature hybrid powertrains and more than 25 km per litre fuel efficiency in these cars. Let's take a look at the upcoming 7-seater hybrid SUVs.
Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara is among the best hybrid cars available in India. It has been well received for its mileage and specifications. The 7-seater version of the Grand Vitara will have the same powertrain as the current 5-seater variant, a 1.5-litre petrol hybrid powertrain that makes 91 bhp and 137 Nm of torque. The engine will be very fuel-efficient, with a mileage of over 25 kmpl, subject to usage. The 7-seater version of the Grand Vitara will launch in the second half of 2025. It will be pitted against other large SUVs such as the Mahindra XUV700 and Tata Safari.
Toyota Urban Cruiser will also get a 7-seater version, which will share some common components with the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. Though the test car hasn't been spotted till date, Toyota will likely employ the same 1.5-litre petrol hybrid motor producing 91 bhp and 137 Nm of torque. The Urban Cruiser 7-seater will also feature decent fuel efficiency, which could be over 25 kmpl, similar to the Grand Vitara. Toyota has not yet announced the launch date but will reportedly arrive in early 2026. The SUV is to squarely compete with the Maruti Grand Vitara 7-seater.
Hyundai plans to bring in its very first hybrid 7-seater SUV to India in a Ni1i codename. The premium product is going to find itself in between the Alcazar and the Tucson in the SUV series of Hyundai. The Ni1i will be rolled out by 2027 and will take on models such as the Mahindra XUV700 and Tata Safari. Hyundai 7-Seater is expected to have a 1.5-litre petrol hybrid engine, which would cut production expenditure without sacrificing mileage. The Ni1i could deliver 18-20 kmpl mileage in the global market, and the hybrid technology could do better in India, with 25 kmpl or more possibilities. This SUV will be produced at Hyundai’s Talegaon plant.
Kia India has been developing a new 7-seater SUV, the MQ4i, based on the global Sorento model. The SUV would be larger in size compared to the Seltos and expcted to be equipped with a 1.5-litre petrol hybrid powertrain. It may be Kia's first strong hybrid SUV in the country. Just like in the case of the other models, the MQ4i will deliver excellent fuel economy, possibly well over 25 kmpl based on real driving conditions. The MQ4i will be manufactured in Kia's plant in Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh. It will compete with the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara 7-seater, Toyota Urban Cruiser 7-seater, and other 7-seater SUVs planned in the segment.
Honda is going to launch its ZR-V Hybrid SUV in India, hoping to increase its market share in the country's rising hybrid vehicle market. The ZR-V will have a hybrid powertrain with great fuel economy and a market advantage as people are shifting toward more environment-friendly vehicles in this market. This SUV will have high-end features such as driver assistance technology, a large touch screen, and a premium audio system. As one of Honda's moves to reclaim its market share, the ZR-V will be positioned as a value-for-money feature-loaded hybrid SUV with a promise of more than 25 kmpl mileage. With its contemporary design and economical hybrid engine, the Honda ZR-V will be targeting Indian buyers seeking both performance and sustainability in a 7-seater spacious SUV.
The new Maruti Suzuki, Toyota, Hyundai, Honda, and Kia 7-seater hybrid SUVs will be equipped with strong mileage over 25 kmpl. The benefit of a spacious 7-seater cabin and the advantages of hybrid technology will go hand in hand, which will lead to better mileage and lower emissions than conventional petrol and diesel engines. With launch dates between 2025 and 2027, these SUVs will be in a position to take advantage of the increasing demand for fuel-efficient and eco-friendly family cars in India.
