Korean automakers Hyundai and Kia are aiming to further strengthen their market position in the fast growing Indian auto industry. Both brands are working on a wide range of new cars including EVs and ICE models, which will be launched in the next 1 year. In this article, we talk about the list of upcoming Hyundai and Kia cars in the Indian market in 2024 and 2025.
Kia Carnival
Kia EV9
Kia Syros
Kia Carens Facelift
Kia Carens EV
Kia will launch the new-gen Carnival MPV and the EV9 full-sized electric SUV in the Indian market on October 3, 2024. Interested buyers can book the new Carnival online or at authorised dealerships by paying a token amount of Rs 2 lakh. On the other hand, the Kia EV9 will be the brand's flagship model in the country. The new Carnival will be powered by a 2.2L 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine that can produce up to 200bhp and a peak torque of 440Nm. This engine is coupled to an 8-speed Sportmatic automatic gearbox.
The Kia EV9 is built on the E-GMP or Electric Global Modular Platform that underpins the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6. The company will launch the top-spec GT-Line variant, which is packed with a 99.8kWh battery pack. It comes with a dual-motor AWD setup, while the power and torque output stands at 378bhp and 700Nm, respectively. The electric SUV is claimed to offer a range of up to 500km on a single charge. Using the 350kW DC fast charger, the Kia EV9 battery can be charged from 10-80% in just 24 minutes. It also supports Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality.
Kia is also testing the Carens facelift, which is scheduled to be launched in 2025. The updated model will receive design changes and an upgraded cabin. Interestingly, Kia is also developing an electric derivative of the Carens MPV which will arrive in 2025. It is expected to share the electric motor with the base Hyundai Kona EV. The Kia Carens EV will be positioned against the likes of the Tata Curvv EV, MG Windsor EV and others in the category.
The big news is that Kia is developing a new compact SUV, which will be positioned between the Sonet and Seltos. Rumoured to be called the Kia Syros, the new compact SUV will be offered with multiple powertrain options including petrol and electric. The EV version could be called the Kia Clavis. The new model will be marketed as a lifestyle SUV; however, it will continue to be a front-wheel-drive model.
Hyundai Tucson Facelift
Hyundai Creta EV
Next-gen Hyundai Venue
The Korean automaker Hyundai will introduce the facelifted version of the Tucson SUV in the country in the near future. The updated model will receive cosmetic changes in the form of restyled LED headlight and DRL cluster, a new grille and updated bumpers. Inside the cabin, the SUV gets an updated infotainment unit with haptic controls, new steering wheel and physical climate control buttons. The new Tucson will retain the existing 2.0L petrol and diesel engines offering 156bhp/192Nm and 186bhp/416Nm, respectively. Both engines are paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
Hyundai's first locally developed electric vehicle, the Creta EV will be launched in the country in early 2025. Production of the new Creta EV is scheduled to begin in December 2024, while public debut could take place at 2025 Bharat Mobility Show. It is expected to feature a 45kWh battery pack with an estimated range of 450km on a single charge. The electric motor could produce a maximum power of 136 bhp and 255 Nm of peak torque.
Hyundai is developing the next-gen Venue, which is likely to be launched sometime in the end of 2025. It will be the first model to be manufactured at Hyundai's new Talegaon factory. The new model will come with all-new styling with inspiration from newer Hyundai SUVs like the Creta and the Alcazar facelift. The new model will retain the existing engine options - a 1.2-litre, NA petrol, a 1.0L 3-cylinder turbo petrol and a 1.5L turbo diesel.
