Next-Gen Toyota Innova launch is expected to be scheduled for later this year; the new model is to be sold alongside the existing MPV.
Twelve months after Toyota Kirloskar Motors gave a mid-life update to its highly popular MPV, the company is now preparing to introduce the 2022 Next-Generation Innova into the Indian market. The new model will be sold alongside the current generation and will feature a monocoque chassis. The vehicle is expected to go by Innova Hycross name and will target private buyers.
Further certain media reports suggest that the New Gen Innova (codenamed 560B) is on its way and is expected to debut sometime later this year. The test mules for the same were spotted initially in Thailand and road testing in India started very recently. The new MPV will use the TNGA-C monocoque chassis with a front-wheel-drive system (FWD) but will be 170 kg lighter than the existing model. The overall dimensions of the new model will be smaller than the Innova Crysta but will have a longer 2.85 meters wheelbase, in the interest of more cabin space. On the inside, the four-wheeler is expected to come loaded with all the modern features like wireless charging, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, ventilated front seats, connected car tech and more.
In terms of powertrain options, Toyota is expected to skip the diesel mill on the 2022 model and offer only a 2.0-litre petrol hybrid motor.
Coming to the Innova Crysta, we can confirm that the model will continue to be on sale with another mild facelift expected to come soon. The facelifted Crysta will be more inclined towards commercial buyers and will continue to be powered by the same 2.4-litre turbo diesel engine delivering 150 bhp and 343 Nm of peak torque. The MPV will be available with the option of a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The launch of the 2022 Innova Crysta Facelift is expected by Diwali.
