Mercedes Benz has just unveiled the new AMG GLC 63 S E Performance and GLC 43 SUV coupes globally. The new models get a sportier design, brand new interior, and new mild-hybrid or strong-hybrid powertrains. We take a closer look.
As its name suggests, the biggest difference between the Mercedes Benz GLC Coupe and the SUV is the former’s sloping roofline. Additionally, both models get AMG-specific parts like the vertical-slatted grille, more aggressive bumpers, 21-inch alloy wheels, side skirts, quad exhausts, and a rear diffuser.
Moving inside, the AMG C43 and the C63 S E Performance get sportier seats with nappa leather, AMG steering wheel, branded pedals, floor mats, and illuminated door sills. The SUVs also get bespoke AMG graphics for the MBUX instrument cluster and infotainment system.

Both the new Mercedes AMG GLC models feature a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol motor that replaces the 3.0-litre six-cylinder in the GLC43 and the 4.0-litre V8 in the GLC 63 S. Mercedes has paired the new motor with a mild-hybrid system in the new GLC 43, making 416 bhp with 500 Nm of peak torque.
Meanwhile, the same motor is mated to a strong-hybrid setup in the GLC 63 S E Performance. The system makes a combined 671 bhp with 1,019 Nm of max torque. The engine itself makes 469 bhp, while the rear electric motor pumps out 202 bhp. Powering the motor is a 6.1 kWh battery pack that also allows the SUV coupe to an electric-only range of 12 km.
Both the AMG GLC 43 and GLC 63 S E Performance are mated to a 9-speed AMG ‘Speedshift’ automatic gearbox.
Globally, the new Mercedes AMG GLC 43 is slated to arrive in early 2024, with the GLC 63 S E Performance coupe expected to go on sale later in the year. It will remain to be seen if the models make their way to India, though Mercedes did offer the previous-gen GLC 43 Coupe here.
