4 Upcoming Kia SUVs - EV, Hybrid and Next-gen Sonet

Kia to launch Syros EV and Sorento Hybrid in 2026 Next-gen Kia Sonet to be based on new platform, launch in 2027 Seltos to receive a hybrid powertrain

Kia India is getting aggressive with its product strategy for the Indian market. The company plans to launch multiple battery-electric and strong hybrid vehicles. The company is planning to launch 4 new SUVs spanning localised urban electric cars, premium flagship hybrids and completely redesigned bestsellers. Here is a quick breakdown of the four upcoming Kia SUVs in the Indian market in 2026 and 2027 -

Kia Syros EV

Expected Launch - August 2026
Estimated Price - Rs 14 lakh - 18 lakh
Competition - Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV 3XO EV

Set to be the brand’s smallest EV in our market, the Syros EV will be marketed as a practical family electric car. Based on the K1 architecture, the SUV will offer superior cabin room over its direct rivals. It is expected to offer 42 kWh and 49 kWh battery options, targeting a realistic real-world range of 350 km to 400 km on a single charge.

Kia Sorento Hybrid

Expected Launch - October-November 2026
Estimated Price - Rs 30 lakh
Competition - Mahindra XUV 7XO

Expected to be revealed in late July 2026, the new Kia Sorento 7-seater SUV will be launched as a flagship premium SUV in the Indian market. The SUV will arrive to introduce Kia’s strong hybrid technology to India. The new Sorento is 4815mm long, 1900mm wide and 1700mm tall. The SUV rides on a 2815mm long wheelbase. Compared to the XUV 7XO, the Sorento is 120mm longer, 10mm wider and 55mm shorter. The India-spec model is reportedly to get a 1.5L strong hybrid powertrain, which will also power the Kia Seltos hybrid and the next-gen Hyundai Creta. Kia could also utilise the 1.6L hybrid engine that powers the new Seltos in Europe.

Next-gen Kia Sonet

Expected Launch - 2027
Estimated Price - Rs 7 - 14 lakh
Competition - Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue

The current Sonet has been criticised for its tight rear-seat legroom. With the next-generation Sonet, Kia will be aiming to fix this by switching to a newer platform. Instead of the current K2 platform, the next-gen Kia Sonet will be based on the newer K1 platform that also underpins the new Hyundai Venue. The next model will have a more upright stance. Styling will be inspired by bigger Kia SUVs, including the Seltos and EV9. It is likely to retain the existing 1.2L NA, 1.0L turbo petrol, and 1.5L diesel engines. However, Kia is reportedly developing a new entry-level hybrid powertrain to power its smaller products. The Hybrid version is likely to join the lineup by 2028.

Kia Seltos Hybrid

Expected Launch - 2027
Estimated Price - Rs 18 - 25 lakh
Competition - Maruti Victoris, Toyota Hyryder, Renault Duster hybrid

Kia will launch the hybrid version of the Seltos SUV in India in 2027. It is likely to use the existing 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine along with two electric motors and a small battery pack. The company would aim to achieve a fuel efficiency figures of around 25kmpl.
