Alpina’s new era begins May 15 7 Series & X7-based models confirmed Luxury focus over performance
Alpina is stepping into a new era under BMW, with its first new-generation models set to debut on May 15, 2026. These cars will be unveiled at the prestigious Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in Cernobbio, Italy, an event known for showcasing some of the world’s most iconic and exclusive automobiles.
The upcoming Alpina models will be based on the BMW 7 Series and the BMW X7. These will be the first models to arrive after BMW took full control of the Alpina brand.
Both models are expected to follow BMW’s upcoming updates, which will introduce the new Neue Klasse design language and advanced technologies. Recently leaked images of the 7 Series facelift have already hinted at a more modern design direction.

The BMW 7 Series is already available with petrol and electric powertrains in global markets. When asked whether Alpina will also offer electric models, BMW’s R&D chief Joachim Post said that the company remains “technology-open”.
This suggests that future Alpina models could feature a mix of internal combustion, hybrid, and fully electric options, although official details are yet to be revealed.
Alpina will continue to focus on comfort, refinement, and effortless speed rather than outright performance. This sets it apart from BMW M, which is known for high-performance and track-focused models.
Joachim Post highlighted that Alpina’s philosophy will remain unchanged, with an emphasis on a more mature and luxurious driving experience supported by high-quality materials and craftsmanship.
BMW has confirmed that Alpina will operate as a standalone and exclusive brand with its own identity.
According to Oliver Heilmer, the distinction between Alpina and BMW M will also be visible in their design approach. While BMW M models focus on aggressive styling and performance, Alpina cars will lean towards elegance, comfort, and understated luxury.
